I don't remember exactly what triggered it for me, but with quests like this I just kept killing the target enemy until it eventually completed automatically.

I think it took quite a few kills too — not 3, but more like 20–25 if I remember right.

While I am not sure, since I'm in the same situation but I think the drop might be like a sanctum drop, not an equipment drop. I'm in progress slaying... Heh, like 2 minutes after this it dropped.

It's a Key Item that you're farming for, called "Sovereign's Crownshard". It is different than the equipment drop, as it is the other portion of the crown. It is a 1/20 drop chance (with a mercy system if you start going too far beyond the drop rate). Hopefully you've gotten it long before you read this reply!

sadly I gave up soon after and focused on other things TT but I'll try again! Thank you for the reply ^^

after doing the whole run 27 times I died because I ran out of food....no relic still.... not sure the mercy system is really working TT

update: after another 9 rounds I finally got it......had to kill the king 46 times in total now
