STAR WARS™ Episode I Racer

STAR WARS™ Episode I Racer

The game is broken don't buy!
The game does not start; when we try, the loading bar appears and goes halfway before closing. The game is broken, and on the forum, there are several people complaining about the problem, and to this day, it has not been fixed by the game's developer. Furthermore, on the forum, some found a temporary solution of downloading a DirectInput file that makes the game open, but it does not work with any current controller or even specific DIMPUT joysticks, such as my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. The game only works with keyboard and mouse, meaning the entire gaming experience is lost because it does not work upon installation and using temporary solutions that do not make the game function 100%.

The game works with controller, but you have to find the correct HID to disable and not being using the dinput file. If you can't get the game to launch without the dinput file, usually this is due to needing to get dgvoodoo for windowed stability and/or needing to find an HID that is causing the game to crash
If you want to run the game in its current state, a file is required called dinput_0.1_win10_x86 you can get it off github. If you instead want a better version of the game with controller support you can patch it with a new launcher from MrGameFixer.
just play from gog. games like this on steam are only to use forum and images
Works out of the box perfectly well.

The game is certainly broken out of the box but here's an all-in-one fix guide

You'd need to set up controls for your devices of choice, other than that everything works great
It runs just fine for me on linux mint... literally zero issues...
I had an issue as well where the game was black with only sound.

Turns out there's an issue with multiple monitors. You have to turn all other monitors off in the display settings. Then the game should run.
Doesn't run. Also, you shouldn't have to mod a game to get it working.
This project fixes the game and gives you more graphics options when you press F5.
Just drop the files in the games directory and start.
It's not perfect but pretty much the only fix that has worked for me.
If you don't like the HD fonts, omit the assets folder that comes with it.

Neither one of these worked for me.
About the controller, I haven't tried newer controllers but I am pretty impressed with it still working with the Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 from 1998 out of the box! although using the updated dinput.dll does break the force feedback feature.

Try to remove other USB devices for it to detect your controller.

The force feedback is pretty cool for a game from 1999, considering it is customizable in game and is a highlight for me coming from just playing this game using keyboard for years, that disabled force feedback leaves something missing in my experience.

Now to get RRDUAL to work, with dual controllers like how it is in game. Saw someone on youtube using a HOTAS throttle, but what bout dual FFB joysticks XD

I got it to work with a regular gamepad, it required replacing dinput dll for doing math needed to convert stick inputs into throttle and steering. For real joysticks you probably can adopt the math and axis tricks. Maybe even ditch the dll to keep force feedback, if your joystick software can do the mapping. Or maybe dll wrapper has an option to preserve force feedback for these devices, idk.
