Jamestown
OpenAL32.dll not found
The game won't start for me.

If I try to start it from Steam, it just closes right away (before displaying anything). If I run the .exe directly, I get this message:

---------------------------
Jamestown.exe - System Error
---------------------------
The code execution cannot proceed because OpenAL32.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

That file is indeed not there.

I tried copying that file from another game I have, but then I get a generic error, like so:

---------------------------
Jamestown.exe - Application Error
---------------------------
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

At this point I'm stuck. How can I start the game if it can't find "OpenAL32.dll" ?

Even though the file is called OpenAL32.dll, there are two versions, one for 32 and one for 64 bit. You probably copied the wrong one.

Check ../Steam/steamapps/common/Steamworks Shared/_CommonRedist
If there is OpenAL/2.0.7.0 inside, run the oalinst.exe.
The _CommonRedist folder may also be in the Jamestown installation directory so check there too.

If not press Win+R and run steam://open/console
At the top of the Steam client you will find the console on the main menu bar, next to your name, i.e. STORE LIBRARY COMMUNITY NAME CONSOLE
Paste download_depot 2720 229020 5799761707845834510 inside and then go to the above location and run the exe. Don't forget to delete the OpenAL32.dll you copied from the other game.
