The game is simply not in a state where it's competitive online on Valve official servers. I have a mediocre wired connection which gets around 30 ping to the closest server, yet every match feels like an entirely different experience hitreg-wise. The game feels totally random. On some servers I hit every shot, even ones that look off. On other servers I'm right on the guy, but nothing seems to register. There's a massive desync issue at hand and it probably has something to do with having net jitter/packet loss/misdelivery since I don't have an absolutely perfect connection. I played CS:GO 64 tick on wi-fi and it felt better than this though and this is a high speed, albeit inconsistent, gigabit ethernet connection. The game-feel changes with each patch, so it's a grab bag of randomness. Animgraph 2 initially made the game feel good for a few weeks. Now it seems to be back to a really sloppy state from a technical standpoint. At least Animgraph 2 lightened the network load, it's definitely better than it was before.

Even when subtick is "working" it's fundamentally flawed and not competitive for online play. The player with the lower ping will ALWAYS get information from the server first, have an eternity to react, then gets to send timestamped packets before their opponent which will always register a kill. This means with two evenly skilled players, the one with the better connection will NEVER lose. On a consistent, tick-based system like in past versions of CS, both players would have a chance to win the fight if they sent a shot on the same tick.

Watching old video clips of how good CS:GO looked as far as "getting what I see" is just sad. Valve has traded function for form. Realistic lighting is not as competitive. Whatever they've done with the netcode is not competitive. Client performance issues (although not affecting me) are not competitive.

"What you see is what you get" is the biggest lie ever told.
Counter-Strike has never been a more random black box gambling experience ever.
