The game has a steep learning curve. During your first few hours, you'll probably spend a lot of time dying and wondering where that one guy was hiding while he picked off your entire squad. Once you begin learning the maps and mechanics, however, every kill and objective captured feels genuinely rewarding.

A major part of the experience is the atmosphere. The sound design, blood effects, incoming artillery, and the cries of wounded soldiers create a level of immersion that few WWII shooters can match.

The game is not without flaws. There are a handful of long-standing bugs that Tripwire is unlikely to ever fix, and some servers can suffer from team stacking. If you can look past those issues, Red Orchestra 2 and Rising Storm remain some of the most unique and satisfying tactical shooters available.
