BMW M5 Love Letter — Jeremy Clarkson

If you prod the throttle of an M5, several things happen.
First, the horizon comes sprinting toward you in a blind panic.
Second, your internal organs file a complaint.
And third, you start laughing — that unhinged, slightly evil laugh
that only appears when something is far faster than it has any right to be.

Because that’s the thing about an M5. It isn’t a car.
It’s a family-sized guided missile with leather seats.
You can take the kids to school, buy some milk, then accidentally break the sound barrier
on the way home — all before breakfast.

It shouldn’t make sense.
A saloon this heavy shouldn’t be this violent.
A machine this civilized shouldn’t try to rearrange your skeleton when you floor it.
Yet it does. Effortlessly.

That’s the main thing about an M5:
it must be extremely fast — and, good grief, this one absolutely is.

— Jeremy Clarkson
