America is now wholly given over to a damned mob of scribbling women, and I should have no chance of success while the public taste is occupied with their trash–and should be ashamed of myself if I did succeed. -- Nathaniel Hawthorne.
Every writer, without exception, is a masochist, a sadist, a peeping Tom, an exhibitionist, a narcissist, an injustice collector, and a depressed person constantly haunted by fears of unproductively. -- Edmund Bergler
Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self. -- Cyril Connolly
I write for the same reason I breathe - because if I didn't I would die. -- Isaac Asimov
Writing may or may not be your salvation; it might or might not be your destiny. But that does not matter. What matters right now are the words, one after another. Find the next word. Write it down. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. -- Neil Gaiman
Blessed are the legend-makers with their rhyme of things not found within recorded time. It is not they that have forgot the Night, or bid us flee to organized delight, in lotus-isles of economic bliss forswearing souls to gain a Circe-kiss (and counterfeit at that, machine-produced, bogus seduction of the twice-seduced). Such isles they saw afar, and ones more fair, and those that hear them yet may yet beware. They have seen Death and ultimate defeat, and yet they would not in despair retreat, but oft to victory have tuned the lyre and kindled hearts with legendary fire, illuminating Now and dark Hath-been with light of suns as yet by no man seen.
Along with posting short god!fics here, I am posting sections of the book that I'm writing. As I don't want anything stolen from me, everything on this journal is flocked. If I don't know you, I'm not going to friend you. Period. Do not pass "Go". Do not collect $200. Go directly to jail. If I do know you, feel free to friend me (more often than not, I'll probably friend you back). If you stumbled across this journal and want to friend me on my main one, be my guest (I'm much more likely to friend you over there). There are "comment to be added" posts both there and here. If you want to be sure that I know you're there, make sure that you comment on them, as I go long periods without checking my profile pages.
If you want to see random, mythology-based short stories, I have posted some stuff to godfic (after posting them here).
Also, if you're interested, I have a blog for my personal muse, and my inner-writer at penelopebrennen. It is mainly where I go to talk about the act of writing, curse my muse, or celebrate when my muse hits me in the face with some pixie dust.
Little Red Riding Hood was my first love. I felt that if I could have married Little Red Riding Hood, I should have known perfect bliss. -- Charles Dickens
