Taking Back the Knit...
... one stitch at a time

I finished this yesterday, after over a week of mishaps and difficulty. I have to admit that it was worth the effort. I had to re-do the knitted black section becase I started it in stockinette, but it curled way too much. It's a custom Guitar Hero scarf for a friend, with notes from a section of the song "Hotel California."

Something I've always been confused by: Weaving in the ends.

How do you do it so that they don't come out?

Crap, I forgot to post the photos in my previous attempt...

I've got a problem with a scarf I've just finished. It's edges curl inward toward the purl side. I noticed this while I was knitting the main black part but I assumed that when I put the white edging on the curling would be solved, as this has worked for me before. I'm not sure what I did wrong and I've no idea how to fix it or if it's even possible without re-doing it (which I'd hate, because it's a custom order and I'm already running late on it).

Does anyone have any tips? It's made with Vanna's Choice 100% acrylic yarn. I assume blocking won't work on acrylic...

EDIT:

Okay, so most of the feedback say that I should try steam blocking it to see if that works, and the rest says that it won't work either way because it's stockinette. I did try the steam blocking idea, which worked.... very temporarily (though I'll definitely keep it in mind for future projects).

My question now is how would I go about picking up stitches on the edges to knit more garter stitch onto it? I've never done that before, because I've never had the need to, so far...

Thank you for your previous comments and thanks in advance for any addressing this new question. =)

I know this is a knitting community but as knitting communities are all I belong to I didn't know where else to turn. :)  I'm making a scarf that requires me to crochet a 53" chain stitch.  It doesn't look too hard for me to try to do, even as someone who doesn't crochet, but I don't entirely understand the pattern.  I was hoping someone here might be able to decipher it for me or perhaps point me toward a crochet help community.  Here's the pattern:

"With crochet hook, make chain about 53 in long.
Slip st in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across.
Fasten off."

What does the middle part mean?  Do I make a 53" chain and then worry about that or is that something I'm doing every second chain?  I'm just not sure what to make of it.  I appreciate any help!  This is the last bit of the scarf and I can't wait to finish it.  Thank you in advance and I hope it's alright that I asked this here, the rest of the pattern involved knitting if that helped any. :)

So I bought a sweater pattern and decided to tackle my first big project. I went to my LYS and got some yarn that the awesome salesgirl recommended for this sweater.
Thing is, the yarn says to use a size 7us needle for 5 sts to the inch. My pattern requires 4.5 to the inch so I bought the yarn thinking that my size 8's would be fine.
Thing is, I'm getting a mixed sort of reading from my gauge swatch. Since the pattern is in the round I knit a swatch in that fashion (using the fake out in the round swatch, not knitting flat) and my gauge changed a bit depending on where I put the ruler. I tried to measure where it seemed the most true, where it wasn't curling or too near the top or bottom. So sometimes i got 4.5 but usually I got 4.75 or 5.
UGH.
I can't find 8.5 circs online or anywhere and now I'm wondering if they exist.
Do they?
Also, should I just go with my 8's? I mean, in some spots I did get a 4.5 to the inch.
I just don't want to mess this up and get discouraged.

Help? (and thanks)

Hey everyone.  I'm new to the group, but not to knitting.  Right now I only have two projects going which is unheard of for me.  I noticed this group's been quiet for a bit but i was hopeful that it would be another group that I could bounce questions/ideas/problems off of as they come up.  Hope everyone's doing well right now...my blog's full of my old finished stuff if anyone wants to check me out.

I recently joined a local knitting club called stitch n' munch. We meet twice a month at some local Panera Breads, and eat, drink, and knit! I'm glad I've found something to join that gets me (and my knitting) out of the house!
It's really fun!

Things are certainly quiet here at TBTK. Are people not knitting any more? Are they confident enough to not need a support group?

I quit knitting after I started working full-time again, but I'm back and at it again.

i just wanted to announce publicly that I've mastered the M1 increase and can move on to knitting this round blanket situation I've had my eye on for the last year or so (... when I have time again, I'll knit... someday... etc)

Who's working on something?
