Join the LiveJournal Revival! Are you fed-up with garbage, full-of-shit sites where nobody actually communicates, such as Facebook, Instagram and Tumblr? Do you wish your old friends who've migrated to those sites would return to LiveJournal? The the_lj_revival community has been set up with that aim in mind, and you are invited to join it. If you are already on LiveJournal and still have a Facebook profile, and would like to see more people returning to LJ or setting up accounts here, we invite you to post a link to this community on your Facebook Timeline. If you would like to find out who is still using LiveJournal and make contact with those who are already here, you are invited to copy and paste the 'about me' questions on the profile page and post them with your answers to the community. Banned Books
Cross-posted, sorry for repeats! Hey all- Did you know your local library could have removed an "offensive" book in the past? Or that your local independent bookstores may be barred from selling classics like Beloved, Catcher in the Rye, Huckleberry Finn, and even Harry Potter on the basis of "offensive language, racism, or sexuality?" If you want to protect your right to read these and other books, take action. If you are a book buff, bookseller, or librarian, consider what you can do to promote Banned Books Week 2009 (Sept 26-Oct 3). For more info on how to do this, check out abffe.com, bannedbooksweek.org, or check us out on twitter or facebook. View http://www.ala.org/ala/aboutala/offices/oif/bannedbooksweek/challengedbanned/frequentlychallengedbooks.cfm for lists of challenged books and authors. Hi Everyone! My name is Johnny. I am a student working to transfer to a UNI to major in psychology and human sexuality. Anyone else here focusing on human sexuality? I am currently conducting a research study on the paraphilias/atypical sexual variations that involve urophilia (arousal from urine/urination), coprophilia (arousal from feces/defecation), and emetophilia (arousal from vomit/vomiting). I am running a very basic survey as part of my project. I am looking for participants that would be willing to take 20 seconds or less to anonymously fill out my survey. I am not basing my survey on a population. My intention is to get a generalized idea of how many people (at random) fantasize or engage in urophilia, coprophilia, and/or emetophilia. To avoid bias answers, I am posting my survey in communities that I feel will be open minded and mature. I would like to get about 500 participants total. I'm half way there. I really appreciate your help. Thank you. http://www.opinionpower.com/Surveys/274042553.html | | Tuesday, October 10th, 2006 | 1:00 pm [postcart]

Advice, please
I'm working in the UK, assisting office and warehouse issues on Health and Safety and I need some advice. For the subject that follows, it is necessary for me to say that I am not religious but I'm not judgmental to anybody who is. I'm making preparations for European Health and Safety week. One theme is festival safety, another is seaside safety. I have to make posters to make staff aware of these issues. At an attempt to make it as fun as possible, I decided to make a poster with David Hasslehoff with a speech bubble from him saying "When at the seaside, always swim between yellow and red flags... have a safe day!" Which is harmless and funny. Then I followed suit with a picture of santa with a humorous H+S statement about Christmas but I really want to depict out festival safety in a fun way, covering other faiths other than Christianity. I made a poster (BUT HAVEN'T PRINTED IT OFF YET) of a posing Prince Nazeem (British Muslim boxer) saying "Happy Eid, Eid Mubrak! Take extra care when cooking this Eid." Is this offensive in any way? Any thought and feedback appreciated. Thank you. | | Tuesday, September 19th, 2006 | 3:23 pm [cell_or_door]

Poverty
I have a question for you all to ponder: Is living on a dollar or less a day the problem, or is the problem what less than a dollar a day will buy for you in terms of surviving? | | Wednesday, August 16th, 2006 | 6:07 pm [bord_du_rasoir]

Response to evidence proposed by Steven Jones
I've recently been introduced to the controlled demolition theory of the WTC collapse as proposed by Steven Jones. Until today, I hadn't encountered someone addressing him on the evidence. Now, I have. I'm not looking to be comprehensive in this post. I'm just looking piece by piece. Here are a few. "Squibs"It's been said that horizontal plumes of smoke that shoot out several floors down from the collapse point to controlled demolition charges. A short clip of such a squib is found here: http://www.debunking911.com/overp.htmThe interesting characteristic that is pointed out on the site is that the squib increases in intensity over time rather than starting with a burst as a controlled demolition charge would. HOWEVER, the video given with this explanation is extremely slowed down. FURTHERMORE, when you look at controlled demolition (type in "controlled demolition" on YouTube.com search) the squibs really don't figure all that prominently. I could go either way on this issue. While I found the debunking911.com analysis originally convincing against Steven Jones' controlled demolition charge theory, after some analysis of my own, I really don't see the debunking911.com argument as the deal breaker I had originally thought. "Thermite + Sulfur" To Steven Jones, the yellow hot molten matter streaming from the tower is a tell-tale sign of thermite. The thing that confuses me is that thermate (thermite + sulfur) was supposed to be used to cut the central support beams in the middle of the tower, not on the perimeter where the molten is coming from, which happens to align perfectly with where the airplane had come to rest. Steven Jones also uses the diagnal cut of the steel beams with grey & yellow residue found at the WTC as evidence that termate was used to undercut the towers at their base. But thermate would be implanted in canisters and would not make a clean straight line, as far as I can gather. FURTHERMORE, These photos are found here: http://hereisnewyork.org/gallery/thumb.asp?CategoryID=5&picnum=13 http://hereisnewyork.org/gallery/thumb.asp?CategoryID=5&picnum=73 It seems as though the beams were cut in this manner well after the collapse. http://www.debunking911.com/overp.htmhttp://www.debunking911.com/moltensteel.htmhttp://www.debunking911.com/thermite.htm | | Saturday, April 22nd, 2006 | 5:55 pm [hiv_aids_study]

Suicide list
Someone on my friends list posted the semi-famous alt.suicide.holiday Methods File. She was disgusted... I myself now think suicide is bad, though in my younger days I'd thought about it. Now I think there are SO MANY other ways to deal with your problems. But I am also in a MUCH better place now. But this is the taboo comm, so I'm passing this along for informational purposes only. Body image
What the hell is up with body image and women these days anyway?? I am almost 200 pounds, but people tell me I look lighter than that, that I look good. I unfortunately have a hard time believing them. *sigh* I am a victim of... what? Media? Boys? Peers? I am happily married and my husband tells me I'm beautiful, but I have a hard time believing him. Do I have a disease? I don't think so... just low self esteme. I'm very curvy, and a "real woman" (size 16-ish). I'm sure I am attractive to others, I just need to learn to see it myself. But I think that's the sick part. That I need to learn that. *sigh* Current Mood: sleepy | | Thursday, August 18th, 2005 | 3:10 am [xanthvamp]

Please check out our community. http://www.livejournal.com/community/for_your_eyes/We have two projects ongoing at the moment, The Pages Project and the Alternate Book Project. Both projects encourage people to participate and add contribution. You may write, draw, do anything as long as you honestly express who you are. If you check out the community we have several Pages scanned showing other people's contributions, and if you look around you will find all the information you need to know for each project. Thanks for taking the time to read this. | | Monday, May 30th, 2005 | 1:07 am [iluvth8r]

Ello
I'm new to this community and I thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Catherine, I'm 17. I live in Mississippi on the Gulf Coast. I will be a senior at LBHS this coming school year. I plan to study music in college and I play several instruments. I am dedicating my life to missionary work as well going to foreign countries to help those less fortunate. I am Catholic and share many of its views...but not all of them. I do support birth control in marriage. I am not anti-homosexual. I do support in-vitro fertilization and other impregnation methods. I'm neither Republican or Democratic because sticking w/ just one party is not right. I support the best canidate running for office, despite party. I think the party system closes the mind to other canidates who are better for the jobs. I am very pro-life and I believe that a person's right to life is the most important thing in the world. Life is a miracle and we have no right to take it away. I believe in free speech but I am careful about what my sister is exposed to that could hurt her. I feel parents do have that right to protect their kids. I believe in our rights as students to have access to all sorts of literature and I proudly read banned books and promote them. I love to get into political and controversial issues and I do my best to be open minded as I possibly can without corrupting my values. I do like to stick to my morals, I give those up for no one. I am glad to be in this community. |
