Pattaya Urges Strict Adherence to Marine Safety Measures During Songkran Festival (April 10–19, 2026)

PATTAYA, April 9, 2026 — Pattaya City authorities and the Marine Department’s Pattaya Branch are calling on residents, business operators, and tourists to strictly follow water safety regulations during the upcoming Songkran Festival long holiday period from April 10 to 19, 2026.

The appeal comes as large numbers of locals and visitors are expected to travel by sea to enjoy Pattaya’s popular beaches and marine attractions in Chonburi Province. The Marine Department’s Pattaya office has issued official guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure safe water travel during the busy festive season.

Key Safety Measures

For Pier and Jetty Operators:
– Clearly display signage showing the maximum number of passengers allowed on each vessel.
– Prepare at least four life rings with rescue ropes.
– Ensure sufficient lighting at the pier.
– Station staff to strictly control passenger numbers and prevent overcrowding.

For Boat Owners and Operators:
– Thoroughly inspect vessels and engines before departure to ensure they are in good working condition.
– Equip boats with essential safety gear, including life jackets and fire extinguishers.
– Never overload the boat with passengers.
– Strictly prohibit drinking alcohol or using intoxicating substances while operating the vessel.
– Exercise caution, reduce speed when approaching other boats, and maintain safe navigation practices.

For Passengers and Tourists:
– Always wear a life jacket when boarding and traveling on any vessel.
– Avoid rushing or pushing while boarding or disembarking; wait until the boat is fully docked.
– Do not stand at the bow, stern, or edges of the boat.
– Refrain from consuming alcohol while on board.
– If a boat appears overcrowded, wait for the next available vessel.

Authorities stated that these measures are crucial to protect lives and property amid the high volume of marine traffic expected during Songkran.

Emergency Contact Channels:
Anyone witnessing violations or water-related incidents can report them immediately to the Marine Department hotline at 1199 or call 0 3811 1278.

Pattaya City encourages all sectors such as residents, entrepreneurs, and tourists, to cooperate fully and adhere strictly to these safety protocols. The goal is to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and memorable Songkran Festival for everyone while promoting responsible tourism.

The Songkran water festival is one of Thailand’s biggest annual celebrations, and Pattaya expects heavy crowds at its beaches and islands. Officials hope that strict compliance with these rules will help prevent accidents and maintain the city’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination.
