Phuket —
A tragic accident happened in Thalang early Friday morning when a fatigued ride-hailing driver fell asleep at the wheel, plowing into several motorcycles and a roadside shop. One woman sustained catastrophic injuries before she was pronounced dead.
The Thalang Police told the Phuket Express that the collision was on the Pa Khlok–Monument Road near the Pa Khlok U-turn (Elephant Camp). Rescue teams rushed to the scene.
Authorities found four motorcycles toppled and damaged, along with a white Suzuki Swift sedan bearing Phuket plates. The driver, identified only as Ms. Saijai (surname withheld), admitted she had been working continuously, transporting passengers day and night. After dropping off a customer at Phuket Airport, she was driving home when she briefly dozed off, causing the crash.
Among the injured was Ms. Rujirada (surname withheld), who suffered the traumatic amputation of her left leg. She was rushed to Vachira Phuket Hospital in critical condition. Later, her daughter confirmed that she had passed away, saying the family was struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.
Police have recorded the incident and are proceeding with legal action against the driver.
