At first I was unsure if I would like it but so far it has been pretty fun and extremely melodramatic.
for those who don't know what glass mask is about; its about a poor girl who dreams of acting and starts being tutored by a legendary actress who can't any longer go on stage because of a terrible accident.
I'm sure theres more to the story I could add in that description, but you would have to read it to know all about it.

Has anyone else read Itazura na Kiss? I just finished up the 5th book today...

Unfortunately, they're omnibus size, and have no chapter count ;-;

While I do recommend it, there's a different reason for my posting...!

At the end of book 5, there is a special about one of the main characters, Naoki, as a child. Without spoiling anything, at one point, his mother mentions Oscar (Rose of Versailles) and Sapphire (Princess Knight) - and the artist draws a lil pic of both <3

I couldn't find a scan online, since they seem to stop waaayyyy before this book ;-; But I thought it was just so cute!

I'm an editor at Stardust Fansubs, which is primarily a group dedicated to finishing series that were dropped/ignored by other groups (and also does re-releases with better quality raws).

We just picked up Mahou no Angel Sweet Mint, but are in need of a translator from either Korean or Japanese. It's a really cute little magical girl show from 1990 and if you know anyone who'd like to translate it, please come apply!

I hope it's okay to ask here; I thought people here would like to know that we want to sub it, at the very least. :3

"The Rose of Versailles" is a manga written by Riyoko Ikeda, one of the members of the infamous Year 24 group. The series was written from 1972 to 1973, and was adapted into an anime in 1979 and ran until 1980. It celebrated immense popularity in not only Japan, but also Italy, Greece, Spain, and other European countries. It is said to have inspired series like "Revolutionary Girl Utena".

Hi, everyone! I decided to write a short review of one of my absolute favourite anime series of all time, Hello! Sandybell. It's a very typical shoujo series of its time and has all the usual tropes, but it's still very enjoyable, primarily because of the wonderful cast of characters. Behind the cut you can find some basic information about the series and the characters and then my thoughts on it. I've tried to keep everything a little vague so that important plot points won't be spoiled for those who haven't yet watched the series. I hope you'll enjoy this!

Say hello to SandybellCollapse )

With all that said, I can only recommend the series to anyone who has an interest in old shoujo. I hope you can find the series in a language that you understand.

The community is a little dead, so I thought maybe we could blow some life into it by reviewing series that we've read or watched. There are plenty of series I know nothing but the name of, so I'd be very interested in hearing the opinions of people who actually know them well.

If there's any interest, I could write reviews of the anime series Lady Georgie, The Rose of Versailles, Hello! Sandybell, Hikari no Densetsu and several World Masterpiece Theater series, such as Perrine, Little Princess Sara and Anne of Green Gables. Other potential series are Little Women, Ai Shite Knight and and Ohayo! Spank, but sadly I haven't yet had the time to watch them even though I have them on DVD.

Soooo. I figured, I should make a list of all the series that I know of that fall into the vintage shoujo/magical girl category (from the start to 1990). It can get a little muddled here because of when manga were serialized and then when they were turned in to anime series. This list isn't exactly chronological, but it's in the ball park! And of course, this is NOT everything! Any contributions would be very much appreciated! I know I am missing quite a few manga series, they're so hard to track down!

Let's see what we can do here:

1. Princess Knight by Osamu Tezuka (1953). There were other shoujo series before this, starting in 1903 and going up until WWII. However with the war, comics died. Until afterwards, when Osamu Tezuka brought Princess Knight (or, Ribbon no Kishi), to the world.
