Editorial Fellowship

Washingtonian’s editorial fellowship offers applicants the chance to immerse themselves in all aspects of making a magazine. As a regional magazine for the national capital, we cover a universe that includes national newsmakers and hometown tastemakers, everything from power politics to local real estate to the ways our diverse city shops, eats, and dresses. Our editorial fellows fact-check stories, work occasional magazine events, and write as often as possible for our magazine and our website. The ideal applicant is a self-starter, ready to collaborate with our creative newsroom and get fired up about covering the day’s happenings in Washington—but also someone with enough curiosity to sniff out interesting news, trends, and personalities that aren’t already in the media. Over the years, our editorial fellows have written feature stories, landed magazine jobs, and had tons of fun. Join us!

Responsibilities: 

  • Pitch and write articles for the print magazine and website
  • Research and fact-check print stories
  • Assist with Washingtonian public programming
  • Attend regular staff meetings

Qualifications: 

  • Available to work full time Monday through Friday
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong multitasking and organizational skills

Fellows are paid at a rate of $18.40/hour.

Coordinator, Marketing & Events

Washingtonian magazine, the area’s award-winning monthly lifestyle publication, is seeking a Coordinator, Marketing and Events to join the team! The ideal candidate must be highly organized, possess excellent communication skills, and have the ability to thrive in a high volume, fast-paced environment. This role will assist with the coordinating, planning, marketing and executing of over 20 Washingtonian events per year. As an integral part of the team, the Event Coordinator will report directly to the Events Director and will work with the Manager, Events & Marketing, assisting as needed. This position is hybrid and will be expected to be in office every week.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist in the execution of all Washingtonian events, including participating in event production meetings with internal team members and outside vendors.
  • Proactively research and establish relationships with new vendors and venues.
  • Organize and manage vendor and partner contact databases, ensuring accurate information.
  • Support event marketing efforts through strategic planning and execution.
  • Support the Washingtonian Events Instagram, assisting with the development and implementation of the strategy for growth and engagement.
  • Collaborate closely with the Marketing Graphic Designer to create visually compelling marketing materials for events and social media platforms.
  • Support Marketing and Events Manager with event logistics and management.
  • Assist with facilitating internal communication with leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Assist the team in all tasks, providing support and taking on responsibilities as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of Washingtonian events.

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • 1-3 years of relevant event management experience; experience in the DMV area is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with social media platforms, particularly Instagram and TikTok, with a focus on strategy and growth.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights as required by event schedules.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, ensuring flawless event execution.
  • Quick learner with the ability to meet deadlines and swiftly adapt to feedback and evolving event needs, demonstrating flexibility and resourcefulness.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with vendors, partners, and internal team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Canva.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with diverse audiences.

Salary: $50,000-$55,000 (commensurate with experience)
