After the previous owner and mods deleted their LJs, who_knits was left without any leadership, sadly.
But the community is back in business! We'll be cleaning up the profile page by deleting missing links and out-dated information. Any nastygrams within the comm will be cleaned up, albeit slowly, as we have time.
Up-to-date info and links will be provided as we can list them.
Please join us in making who_knits a great and helpful resource again! :)
ETA: please join the comm as a member, otherwise comments might be screened; also, only members can post--that's to protect the comm and its members from spammers.
Wholanta, formerly known as Timegate, is the Doctor Who'verse and British media con in Atlanta, GA, USA, May 5-7, 2017. Please note the date change, as Timegate used to take over Memorial Day weekend. For more info, see https://wholanta.com/ .
Just to let everyone know, as director of the costume track, I'm still working on the schedule, and will be putting out a regular call for panellists ASAP.
Just wanted to let everyone know that there will be a show'n'tell panel on Friday night at 9 pm (most likely). Please bring any and all projects, completed or works-in-progress, to show off. This includes all knitting, tatting, that sort of thing. :)
EDIT: we no longer need panelists, but the 50 minutes has now been turned into a safe space where crafters and knitters, etc., can come by and share their projects. Mods will be on hand to maintain order. :)
Hi folks!
It's Kim, Director of the Wardrobe Portal at TimeGate.
TimeGate is the Doctor Who and British Media convention in Atlanta, GA, USA, May 27-29th, 2016, at the Atlanta Marriott Century Center Hotel. The GoH is Paul McGann, the 8th Doctor. More info can be found here at the website:
If you're attending, we have a panel on Friday just for knitters and related crafters. :) It's at 8 PM. Panels last 50 minutes.
Who Knits
The panel needs a couple more knitters. If you knit Four/Rose/Amy scarves, and want to show off your work, you're needed. :) Also, if you knit/tat/crotchet Who'verse items, please apply. Applicants need to describe their items/projects briefly.
My rules for panelists are easy common sense. :) Please be on time, be kind to other panelists, and answer politely when taking questions from audience members. Panels end at 10 minutes before the hour, as the Costume track shares space with the Lit track. If an attendee comes up to the table afterward to ask questions of you, please be kind but have them walk with you out to the hallway for more chatting ASAP.
I beg everyone will forgive me if this and any subsequent posts are a bit roughly done. This is my first time posting on Livejournal or attempting to demonstrate anything like this.
For the past year I have been working on a ridiculously, needlessly tedious screen-accurate pattern for the Season 16/17 Doctor Who scarf.
Hello. I am having a bit of a problem. I knitted what I am calling my prototype Doctor Who scarf using the pattern found on wittylittleknitter.com Season 12. Now I am the type of person to be unable to read patterns well.
Here is what I did for the pattern for my first go around. I used Vanna's Choice yarn, knitted 42 stitches instead of the 35 called for and doubled the yarn (what I mean by this is instead of using one string of one colour I used two strings of one colour). This made the scarf more bulky but it seemed right in my eyes. This time I am trying to stick more to the pattern but am finding that as I try to follow it I am confusing myself.
For starters I am only using one string of yarn instead of two (which makes the scarf seem very flimsy). So is the scarf supposed to be flimsy. Secondly, I am a little confused on the mention that you need to double the stitches. If I just use one string of yarn then when I read I need three rows for example should it them be six? I am posting a picture of the prototype scarf. If anyone can help me read the pattern from wittylittleknitter and understand it would greatly settle my second guessing. Thanks
I am looking for anyone willing to share Dr Who crochet patterns. I am an intermediate crocheter and would love to make something for my fiance for Christmas. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Just to let you know I started a little group for all of us who Knit Four scarves, and I'm extending an open invitation to anyone who has knitted one, who has even considered knitting one, even if you have bought one or had one made for you on commission or by friends and family. Share your pics, your wool suggestions, tips, or even if you’re contemplating doing four and want to know how to make or get an excellent scarf, this is the place for you.
Hello fellow crafters/knitters/crocheters! I've had an influx of versions of the 4th Doctor's scarf flow from my crochet hook over the last few months and I thought I'd share them. :)
[A commissioned long version...] A commissioned long version (with colors chosen by the recipient and some handy Doctors snagged for a photo-op)
I haven't seen any new posts here in a while, but I'd like to let you know that I am accepting commissions for the Season 19 Peter Davison sweater via Etsy.
I've been stalking this comm for a while (sorry I'm a bit shy), I'm a self taught beginner knitter and right now I'm working on a sweater for my dog because I think she won't mind if I mess it up a little :)... Well for my next project I'm thinking about the famous season 12 Tom Baker scarf but also I'd like to try to knit Rose's scarf from Boomtown, I was wondering if any of you knew where I could find a pattern for that scarf (Rose's) and the colors of the yarn? :) and maybe any advise for both the Doctor's and Rose's scarfs?
After getting sidetracked by commissions for three Baker scarves which made me sick of them, I started back up on my Davison sweater this past week. Noticing a bunch of problems with my pattern, I set aside the start of my first and began a new one. But then when I checked the reference pics on my computer again, I noticed this close-up from the Doctor Who Experience courtesy of dondragmer and I made some notes from what I saw. (Click for the full-size image to see the notes)
So, the bad news is that I've started on two sweaters only to realise that I had gotten my pattern fundamentally wrong. The good news, is that now I have the right basic pattern for the main body of the sweater, and am therefore one step closer to screen accurate, although I'm not starting over again until I'm sure of more details.
For now, I'm going to continue knitting the main body and write an updated pattern before doing anything with the sleeves. Here's the two pieces of information I need for my pattern:
1) Is the jumper knitted on straight or circular needles? The best shot I can get of the sides, where a seam would normally be, is in Terminus Part 4, between 11:15 and 11:20 (just before and while the Doctor says 'Right, let's go.'), but I don't have the DVD so it's hard to tell with the video quality. Does anyone with the DVD have a good clear screenshot that would answer this quandary?
2) How many rows of ribbing do I need for the waistline and neckline of the sweater? If anyone is going to the Doctor Who Experience soon, could you please take a pic for me? Please and thank you!
Here's four of the five scarves I've made over the course of the last year:
( Scarf pics...Collapse ) Aside from the Season 12, which is my sentimental favourite because it was the first I'd ever made, all of my scarves have been sold. The three others pictured were commissioned by my aunt in California, and an identical Season 14 was commissioned by my girlfriend's professor. After over 50 feet of scarves in a year, I'm not making any more for a LONG time.
Someone asked about this pattern a long time ago, and I've finally gotten around to writing it up and posting it. Just in time for winter!
This was a really fun pattern to create. Stranded knitting in the round was a new experience for me, but fairly simple once I got the knack of keeping my floats loose. And the double-layered result is SO snuggly and warm!
Pattern on my website here, Ravelry link here. Enjoy!
So I just found out about this group through a fellow whovian's LJ and I thought I'd inrtoduce myself and share in the Doctor Who love. ^_^ Been crocheting since I was about 8, but have only truly been active with crafting things for the last 5 years. After getting bored with scarfs and clothes, I finally gave in a decided to try the amigurumi trend and I think I've found a talent in my take on it. Then once I saw Doctor Who this spring, well, it didn't take long until I started churning out these:
That's all the Doctors I've made so far, but I have designs to make all of them before the year is out. And a Time Lord couldn't travel without his.... ( TARDISCollapse )
Last is the small amount of other characters I've made so far. Several New Who companions and a Dalek are in the planning/designing stages still.
Sorry this is so image heavy. I scaled down the pictures to help compensate for that hopefully without loosing any detail quality. Anyway I hope you enjoy and I look forward to seeing all the lovely projects you fellow knitters/crocheters will post in the future!
I'm knitting myself a blanket with Doctor Who motives.
I started spinning on a wheel last year and still learing different technics. Since with every new technic there is a learing curv I have a lot of "not really balanced or preety"-yarn. With this yarn, dyed green, I'm knitting said blanket.
I already used the TARDIS- and Dalek-Dishcloth patterns, but obviously needed more.
