Position Summary:
EqualAI seeks a strategic and experienced Director of Programs & Policy to lead and manage our high-impact initiatives aimed at identifying and promoting AI governance practices. This role requires experience in executing programs and policy development. The Director of Programs & Policy will play a critical role in coordinating EqualAI’s programs, shaping policy discussions, and developing partnerships with key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Management and Strategic Leadership
Plan and Oversee Program Execution: Lead the development, planning, and implementation of EqualAI’s core programs, including workshops, corporate partnership initiatives, and educational programs that advance responsible AI practices.
Ensure Program Alignment with Strategic Goals: Align program initiatives with EqualAI’s mission and objectives, managing program timelines, deliverables, and budgets to meet organization goals.
Optimize Program Processes and Impact: Establish and track KPIs for all programs, ensuring measurable outcomes and adapting strategies based on data, feedback, and policy developments.
Policy Analysis and Legislative Engagement
Policy Research and Analysis: Stay current on AI policy, legislation, and emerging regulations, tracking trends to keep EqualAI’s programs at the forefront of AI governance discussions.
Develop Policy Briefings and Recommendations: Prepare briefings and recommendations for both internal teams and external audiences, translating complex policy issues into accessible insights and action points.
Monitor Legislative Developments: Track AI-related regulatory updates and legislative actions at federal and state levels, providing timely information to inform internal strategy and stakeholder communications.
Stakeholder Engagement and Partnership Development
Organize and Facilitate Workshops and Events: Plan and execute events and training sessions that educate policymakers, industry leaders, and other stakeholders on to align on best practices in AI governance.
Engage Policymakers and Represent EqualAI with Stakeholders: Participate in relevant meetings and public discussions, advocating for responsible AI practices and communicating EqualAI’s insights and initiatives.
Foster Relationships with Key Stakeholders: Build and maintain relationships with corporate partners, government agencies, and other partners.
Program Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
Evaluate and Refine Programs: Use feedback and analysis to make iterative improvements to programs, ensuring sustained impact and relevance.
Prepare Comprehensive Reports and Presentations: Communicate program findings, policy updates, and progress to internal and external stakeholders, including board members, donors, and partners.
Resource and Budget Management
Manage Program Budgets: Work with leadership to develop and monitor budgets, ensuring responsible use of funds and alignment with program goals.
Support Funding Efforts: Assist with grant writing, donor communications, and fundraising strategies by providing program insights and outcomes.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in public policy, law, technology, or a related field preferred.
Experience:
Hill and industry experience is strongly preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in program management, ideally within a nonprofit, government, or policy-focused organization.
Proven track record of managing complex programs, collaborating with stakeholders, and delivering high-quality policy analysis.
Skills and Competencies:
Project Management Skills: Strong organizational skills and experience managing multiple projects, ensuring timely and successful completion.
Stakeholder and Partnership Management: Skilled at building and maintaining relationships with policymakers, corporate partners, and other key stakeholders.
Policy Expertise preferred: In-depth understanding of AI policy and regulatory frameworks, with demonstrated experience analyzing and communicating policy issues effectively.
Strong Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, including experience with policy writing and public speaking.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in AI/technology policy, regulation or legal frameworks.

Position Overview
EqualAI seeks a highly strategic, execution-focused Chief of Staff to serve as a trusted partner to the CEO and senior leadership team. This role is central to advancing organizational priorities, driving cross-functional coordination, and ensuring operational excellence across a growing portfolio of programs and partnerships.
The Chief of Staff will operate as a force multiplier for the CEO — translating vision into action, managing high-priority initiatives, strengthening internal alignment, and representing the organization with external stakeholders when appropriate.
This role is ideal for the detail-oriented, highly organized individual who thrives at the intersection of strategy, policy, operations, and communications in a fast-moving environment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Execution
- Partner closely with the CEO to develop and advance organizational strategy
- Drive execution of top institutional priorities and special initiatives
- Monitor progress against goals and ensure accountability across teams
- Identify risks, opportunities, and operational gaps early
- Prepare decision frameworks and recommendations for senior leadership
Organizational Alignment & Operations
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts across programs, research, communications, partnerships, and development
- Improve internal processes to support growth and efficiency
- Support annual planning, budgeting, and performance tracking
- Ensure effective information flow across leadership and staff
- Help cultivate a strong, mission-driven organizational culture
CEO Support & External Engagement
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO
- Prepare and/or organize briefing materials, talking points, and background research
- Support board relations, including materials, meetings, and follow-ups
- Represent EqualAI in meetings with senior leaders across government, industry, and civil society when needed
- Assist with high-level partnerships and stakeholder management
- Act as a strategic gatekeeper and filter for the CEO’s calendar to maximize their impact and protect time for high-level strategic decision-making
Programmatic & Initiative Leadership
- Lead or support priority initiatives, including convenings, publications, executive education programs, and strategic partnerships
- Coordinate major events and cross-sector engagements
- Ensure initiatives align with organizational goals and deliver measurable impact
Qualifications
Required
- 6–10 years of professional experience in a chief of staff, operations, program management, or executive support role at similar, mission-driven environment (e.g., government, policy, consulting, nonprofit leadership, technology, or related fields)
- Demonstrated success coordinating across teams, consultants, and external partners in a fast-moving organization
- Experience supporting senior executives or principals directly
- Demonstrated ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels
- Exceptional project management and organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Experience working with senior executives or public leaders
- Ability to manage multiple high-stakes priorities simultaneously
- Sound judgment, discretion, and political acuity

Key Responsibilities
Development Strategy & Leadership
Work closely with the CEO to design and execute a comprehensive and ambitious growth strategy that supports both short- and long-term organizational impact.
Partner with the CEO and board to set fundraising goals and drive revenue generation from individuals, foundations, corporations, academic institutions, and government sources.
Identify, cultivate, and steward major donors and high-impact partnerships.
Develop fundraising materials and case statements aligned with EqualAI’s mission and strategic priorities.
Grant management and institutional giving
Lead grant research, writing, submission, and reporting processes.
Nurture and maintain strong relationships with foundation partners, ensuring compliance with grant requirements and clear communication of impact.
Donor engagement and stewardship
Build and maintain a pipeline of prospective donors across sectors (tech, policy, academia, philanthropy).
Design and implement stewardship strategies to deepen donor relationships and increase retention.
Oversee donor communications, including newsletters, annual reports, and campaign updates.
Campaigns, events and partnerships
Plan and execute fundraising campaigns, digital appeals, and special events (virtual and in-person).
Leverage EqualAI’s unique network and thought leadership to forge high-visibility collaborations.
Represent EqualAI at convenings, conferences, and partner events.
Development operations
Maintain accurate donor records and reports for internal and compliance use.
Analyze fundraising metrics to assess effectiveness and inform strategic decisions.
Work closely with other staff at EqualAI and our partners to ensure alignment on communications, programs, and operations.
Qualifications
Five or more years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development or related role.
Proven track record in securing and managing six- and seven-figure gifts and grants.
Strong writing, storytelling, presentation and narrative skills tailored to diverse audiences.
Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to build and manage systems in a growing organization.
Strong record of professionalism and attention to detail.
Team player who wants to build relationships and support various organizational priorities as needed.
Passion for EqualAI’s mission and a deep understanding of the social impact of AI is strongly preferred.
Experience working with technology, policy, academic, or corporate stakeholders.

EqualAI is looking for an intern to help with various lines of effort that are critical to our work, including: research and writing for articles, speeches, social media, and our In AI we Trust podcast. Experience with AI, social media or podcasts is a bonus but not necessary.
Responsibilities and Duties
Strong research and writing skills and professional experience required. Specific duties include:
- Drafting: social media copy, blog posts, newsletters, and other documents as needed.
- Briefing: EqualAI’s President & CEO with background & TPs in preparation for events and meetings and preparing In AI We Trust co-hosts for podcast recording sessions.
- Monitoring and Assessing: news in the AI domain, including technical, legal, governmental, or industry developments.
- Producing: resources for our members and programs, including our EqualAI Badge© Program and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) course for Lawyers.
- Other projects and responsibilities as they arise and based on candidate’s experience and interests.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Strong research, communication, and organizational skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Experience in writing and communications for corporate executives and the general public. Experience in writing materials for other audiences, such as lawyers and policymakers, are a bonus but not required.
- Experience with AI, social media, podcasts, or the legislative policy process are welcome but not required.
