Funky Retro Sci-Fi AI Future Film 'Hot Spot' Trailer with Noomi Rapace

By Alex Billington
Hot Spot AI Sci-Fi Trailer

"We can each other." "Cool." Focus Features has revealed the first official trailer for a sci-fi thriller movie called Hot Spot, the latest from Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Smoczyńska, best known for the films The Lure, Fugue, and The Silent Twins. This is a Polish-Greek co-production, but it's shot entirely in English for an international audience - hitting US theaters starting in August coming soon. In the late 21st century, an investigator and a member of a feared religious sect are slammed together by a murder in a refugee camp. "The system is unstable." Hot Spot, a bold new vision of the future, stars Andrzej Konopka and Noomi Rapace, along with Reika Kirishima, George Aurimas Cris, and Filippa Koutoupa. Set in a near future society ruled by sentient A.I., a private eye investigates a murder case only to discover a rebel group capable of undermining the digital overlord. As the detective's identity slowly unravels, his world enters a state of hypnotic meltdown. This looks wild! I dig the retro futuristic vibes and the funkiness of it all. Along with how crazy weird and trippy it gets. What is even going on?! Definitely gotta watch it and find out more.

Sci-Fi Action Thriller Movie 'Kill Code' Trailer with Keitel, Tyrese, Grillo

By Alex Billington
Kill Code Trailer

"Are we really so different, you and I?" Quiver has revealed the official trailer for an action thriller movie called Kill Code, formerly known as Hard Matter before this final title. Another new action thriller set in the near future dealing with AI and how it might be used in nefarious ways. In a crime plagued future after the Second Civil War, a power-hungry corporation called Alpire Industries has issued deadly AI watches to criminals, forcing them to eliminate each other for freedom, and only one of their own can topple the entire system from within. When cyber-enhanced operative Elera uncovers the truth, she becomes the corp's most wanted fugitive. Hunted by her former mentor, Eion Vass, Elera joins a rogue resistance to destroy Alpire’s mainframe before the AI turns all humanity into targets. Starring Harvey Keitel, Tyrese Gibson, Frank Grillo, Franzi Schissler, Jacob Artist, Peter Stormare, Sescily Leon Connell, and Brett Cullen. This looks very stylish and it has some impressive VFX for an indie sci-fi film. But will the rest of the story be any good? Or just a mess? Hard to tell from this footage – worth a look if you're into sci-fi movies at all.

Sci-Fi-Filled Full Trailer for 'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' - Season 4

By Alex Billington
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Trailer

"There's too much at stake..." Paramount+ has revealed the main official trailer for the next new iteration of Star Trek - the latest season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, currently running for 4 seasons so far. This particular Star Trek series, one of many from Paramount+ and CBS, first launched in 2022 with a new cast & crew of the USS Enterprise, including Captain Pike and Spock. Continuing this summer with Season 4, and Season 5 is already in development. The crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, led by Captain Christopher Pike, embarks on a series of thrilling and emotional adventures across the stars. On their journey, they will battle inner demons and external threats, encounter colorful new characters, reunite with familiar faces and confront terrifying aliens and other surprises. Anson Mount stars as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One & Ethan Peck as Spock. The cast includes Celia Rose Gooding as Uhura, Jess Bush as Nurse Chapel, and Christina Chong as La'an. Season 3 of this latest series finished in September last year with a finale showing Pike saying "goodbye" to his beloved Marie Batel. Season 4 continues with more spectacular space adventures around the vibrant and mysterious and mesmerizing universe. This looks like it should be a properly fun new series with plenty of actual "strange new worlds" they explore, including some kind of cowboy world? And lots of amusing throwbacks to the original 1960s TV series as well. Enjoy.

Trippy Trailer for 'Welcome Space Brothers' Doc on Unarius UFO Cult

By Alex Billington
Welcome Space Brothers Doc Trailer

"She radiates an energy that you have to be sensitive to to read it. And she read me." Meet Unarius! XTR, Diorama, SpectreVision, and A Museum & Crane are co-presenting this fascinating sci-fi documentary film titled Welcome Space Brothers. This first premiered in 2023 at Beyond Fest and has been waiting to get a proper release ever since. With the release of Spielberg's UFO movie Disclosure Day also this weekend, no better time than now to unveil it to the public. Do you believe? Was she really an alien? "Love is the greatest power in the universe." Welcome Space Brothers is the true story of the Unarius Academy of Science, an UFO-channeling spiritual school 🛸 founded in Southern California that originally in the 1970s and 80s became a wildly prolific filmmaking collective & public access TV phenomenon under the direction of their outlandish spiritual leader Ruth E. Norman, aka the "Archangel Uriel." Landing in time for the theatrical premiere at the Alex Theater in Glendale this weekend! Featuring Moby and the Unarius choir performing live onstage and celebrate the launch of our theatrical roadshow across America this summer. Elijah Wood, Lord & Miller, and Moby are all listed as executive producers. This looks bonkers! Like Scientology on acid.

Review: Spielberg's Sci-Fi 'Disclosure Day' Really is Afraid of The Truth

By Alex Billington
Disclosure Day Review

The truth will set us free. But will it really? Or is this just another nice platitude we all like to hear? We live in a very strange, post-truth era now, where the actual truth doesn't seem to matter much, and many people are instead obsessed entirely with believing whatever "truths" they prefer all because objective truths are too scary now (e.g. vaccines, climate change, etc). I'm not sure if Steven Spielberg doesn't know this, doesn't understand this, or doesn't know what to say or how to address this, because his new sci-fi film Disclosure Day is obsessed with discovering and unveiling the truth (about aliens) to the world in a time where doing this makes no difference anymore. He seems so lost in his own conspiracy theories and his faith about aliens being here on Earth, that he forgets to actually tell an interesting story with a meaningful message. He also forgets to actually make a movie that's about aliens at all. And most importantly, he seems to have forgotten to have anything actually worthwhile to say within this movie. The ending is blatant avoidance and massive cinematic fumble, even if the rest of the movie before is quite thrilling. Sorry Mr. Spielberg, but this ain't it.

Full Trailer for Netflix's 'Human Vapor' Japanese Sci-Fi Thriller Series

By Alex Billington
Human Vapor Trailer

"I will expose everything. The crimes, all of it." Netflix has unveiled their full official trailer for the thriller series Human Vapor, a frightening new take on this sci-fi thriller classic from Toho Studios. Ready for streaming worldwide in July this summer season. From the creators behind Train to Busan and the recent "Gannibal" series comes a grounded reimagining of Toho's legendary classic. From Netflix Japan, Human Vapor is a sci-fi thriller series following a mysterious killer who can transform into gas and slip through any barrier. As fear spreads across society, a detective and relentless reporter race to stop an unstoppable force that seems to mock the limits of human control. The original is a 1960 film called The Human Vapor made by Gojira director Ishirô Honda. This modern update is a much more chilling version, more of a serial killer thriller than superhero story, though has vibes of both genres. The series stars Shun Oguri, Yu Aoi, Suzu Hirose, Kento Hayashi, UTA, and Yutaka Takenouchi. It looks really creative & actually quite freaky with this gas guy and his plans to kill people and cause mayhem. Intense! Check out the new footage below.

Trailer #2 for 'The Dogs Stars' Sci-Fi Movie with Elordi, Brolin, Qualley

By Alex Billington
The Dogs Stars Trailer #2

"What do you expect to find?" "Something better than this..." "The dream." 20th Century has debuted the second official trailer for Ridley Scott's next movie – a post-apocalyptic thriller called The Dog Stars, based on the book by Peter Heller. The Dog Stars is a survival sci-fi movie set to hit theaters in late August at the end of the summer, arriving just before we get into the fall. This new trailer is similar to the first one setting up the post-apocalyptic setting (filled with cannibals it seems like) and the 3 main characters. Sparse survivors in the aftermath of a catastrophic pandemic traverse a ravaged wasteland landscape to find the origin of a mysterious radio transmission - wanting more from their lives. Jacob Elordi stars in it as Hig, a civilian pilot flying his Cessna around. With Brolin as a tough ex-marine. They face invaders and struggling of hoping for a better life outside of their current existence in a tiny enclave. Starring Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, and Margaret Qualley, with Guy Pearce, Benedict Wong, & Allison Janney. Is anyone out there anywhere? Will they find anything better or is it just going to be bleak nothingness forever? At least there's an adorable doggie in here, and hopefully nothing bad happens to it. Fire up the latest trailer below.

Full Trailer for 'Mockbuster' Doc - Making a B-Movie for The Asylum

By Alex Billington
Mockbuster Doc Trailer

"Are you panicked yet?" Giant Pictures has revealed their full official trailer for a documentary film called Mockbuster, a clever meta comedy from Australian filmmaker Anthony Frith. This is not a faux doc, it's a real doc film about the infamous studio known as The Asylum. A look at what it's actually like to make a bonafide B-movie. Formed in 1997, The Asylum has been creating rip-off B-movie blockbusters for decades (called "mockbusters") and releasing them to fans who want to watch this unabashed junk and laugh their butts off. Mockbuster is a comedic, behind-the-scenes documentary of the making of Anthony Frith's own dinosaur film The Land That Time Forgot for The Aslyum, which made in 6 days in Adelaide. "Throughout the film shoot, Frith navigates the gloriously chaotic orbit of Asylum producer Brendan Petrizzo and studio founders David Rimawi, David Latt, and Paul Bales as he attempts to keep a prehistoric adventure afloat amid rubber dinosaurs, last-minute rewrites, and caffeinated panic." The doc will be out to watch this July. It's an amusing B-movie version of Megadoc, taking us into the wacky world of making (bad) movies. Enjoy.

By Alex Billington
Among Us Trailer

"Any one of us could be the killer!" 😱 Paramount+ has revealed one final official trailer for the animation series Among Us, an animated version of the popular video game series that originally arrived in 2018. One More Rad Story Trailer for 'Star Wars: Galactic Racer' Video Game

By Alex Billington
Star Wars: Galactic Racer Traielr

"Racers don't go head to head against Sebulba – legends do." Buckle up! Fuse Games has launched another official trailer for the Star Wars: Galactic Racer video game, ready to play in October later this year. Sometimes we break our rules and post trailers for video games - and this game continues to look awesome. Growing up, I was a huge fan of the N64 game Star Wars Episode I: Racer, featuring pod racing from Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (both released the same year in 1999). I'm ready to play this next! Galactic Racer is a runs-based, high-stakes reinvention of racing born in the lawless Outer Rim of the Star Wars galaxy. The campaign is set in the New Republic Era and takes place on the desert planet Jakku as seen in 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens. With the Empire now gone and the galaxy rebuilding, The Galactic League is formed: an underground, unsanctioned circuit where syndicates bankroll chaos and new champions are forged. We featured the original debut trailer late last year. This latest promo is a look at the story mode in this, involving the racer Sebulba and others competing for podracing glory. Can't wait to play.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead & Rafe Spall in 'Rich Flu' Virus Thriller Trailer

By Alex Billington
Rich Flu Trailer

"Our planet is on fire. People who thought that they were untouchable – but they're not." Get a load of this. Vertical released an official US trailer for the intriguing dark thriller titled Rich Flu, an apocalyptic virus movie from Spain and the UK. You might not be surprised to learn that Rich Flu is from the same director as The Platform and The Platform 2 - the famous Spanish films criticizing greed and modern society and all of that. Yet it has taken 2 years to release. Just Laura's career peaks, a deadly virus targets the rich. As panic erupts and society turns on the 1%, she must fight to protect her family in a world where wealth becomes a death sentence. Strange plot. How does the virus know which people are rich? How does that work? It's an obvious gimmick story where the world falls apart after the rich are gone, but I also think this is why it has mixed reviews and will be dumped on VOD this month. Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars as Laura, with Rafe Spall, Lorraine Bracco, Dixie Egerickx, César Domboy, Timothy Spall, Jonah Hauer-King. It premiered in 2024 at the Sitges Film Festival, and played at Beyond Fest & TIFF. Might be worth a look.
