The LAcon V Virtual Convention: What To Expect
Part of our commitment as a Worldcon is to bring exciting digital content to members who have purchased either an attending or a virtual membership.
Live Streaming and Replays
We are equipped to stream out content from up to ten rooms between our venues. Depending on the availability of volunteers, there may be an opportunity for members attending virtually to ask questions, relayed to the room.
Some content will be entirely virtual, with all panelists interacting remotely. One of our priorities with virtual panels is to truly put the “World” in Worldcon. Much of this content will extend beyond our in-person scheduled hours.
Whenever possible, streaming and virtual content will be recorded and available for members to replay for a limited time after the convention, so you can go back and rewatch your favorites, or see what you missed.
Interactive Opportunities
We will have a member Discord to facilitate interaction between members attending in person and online. Besides a place to chat, this will be a natural spot to continue discussions that start in our panel rooms. If there is something in particular you want to see or do as part of the virtual side of the convention, please let us know by email to virtual@lacon.org.
We Need Volunteers!
Our single biggest constraint on offering rich digital content is volunteers. If you’re interested in helping make digital content a reality, we are looking for both in-person and online volunteers. If you have something specific you’d like to contribute, put your idea or area of expertise in the form and we’ll be in touch.
We’ve been thrilled to hear how excited people are for our digital experience this year. We look forward to working with you to make the virtual side of our convention the best it can be.
