"We refuse to become teachers serving a mechanism of social selection in an educational system operating at the expense of working-class children, to become sociologists drumming up slogans for governmental election campaigns, to become psychologists charged with getting "teams of workers" to "function" according to the best interests of the bosses, to become scientists whose research will be used according to the exclusive interests of the profit economy."

1- On thursday, Petter will arrive! I've known him since 7th grade without ever meeting him in person, and I couldn't be more excited about it. So many implosions yet to come!
2- My wedding is in two weeks! Almost everything is organized and so many people will be there, it's startling. I never knew so many people cared (or liked free cake). I can't wait to stand up there with my man and promise myself to him in front of my family and friends. I can't wait to dance afterwards! To be pretty in my dress and silly!
3- Although I'm working a pretty crappy job, I have an income. AND, a commission. That means a nice little 150-200 dollar chunk, just for me.
4- 6 gerbils, and counting...
5- Super-awesome plans for Canada day! A funfilled day at the beach for me. |

I am getting married in exactly one month.
It's funny that I've been avoiding posting about it. Perhaps its the fact that I know people who I haven't spoken to in years will be clamouring overthemselves to find out "what's the scoop". It's always funny to find out that someone you know is taking that oh-so-adult step. It's always strange. Most of the responses I had recieved at the earlier stages were along the line of "but you're so young!", and once I had explained the immigration issue I would immediately recieve "ah, so it's a necessity thing". So black and white! Canada's strange and time-consuming immigration laws might have been a factor in the timing of it, but that doesn't take away from the fact that I had already committed myself to him, fully and truly, before we had even gotten engaged. I find it silly for people to pass judgements on the relationships of others, for they cannot know what is experienced in those moments of intimacy. They do not know what is said when the couple is lying awake in bed, or what exactly is felt in little moments of interaction, the idiosyncrasies of the day. And yet it seems that it is merely human nature to make assumptions about other people's lives, it is so very hard to stop oneself.
Perhaps I'm getting a little too philosophical. The point is, I'm getting married. My dress is being made, my cake is ordered, the flowers are too. The invitations are -out-. The little backyard wedding will have my closest friends and family, and that's it. Just the way it should be.
I feel no worries about this. I have no problems imagining Steven and I living our lives together, working out our disputes and our hard times, and always striving for the good. To me, marriage is not meant to be perfect all of the time, nor is it meant to end when troubles arise. Marriage, to me, means sharing your life. |

It's been a little while since I've updated. Let's see... what has happened this month...
1) The big move on April 1st went quite smoothly. Emily's parents helped us out, which we greatly appreciated. Apparently, in order to rent a van you must be the driver, be at least 25 years of age, and all of that jazz. So, Phil rented the van and we paid him back later (of course). The day went without a hitch, with Scott, Emily, Dirk, and Em's family helping us. It was our first time seeing our exact apartment and we were immediately enamoured. When we finally got all of our stuff moved in more friends came over, and we made everyone some dinner and "cie" (cake-pie, frosted apple pie with dinosaur sprinkles). It took us a little time to get fully settled but now we're nice and snug.
2) Exams. Thank god we're finally done with all of that! They all went well, though we don't have our marks back quite yet. I'm looking forward to seeing my average. All I know is that it's at -least- a B. Steven has a B+ in one course, but he hasn't found out about the rest. He probably has great marks in those, too, since he's so adept at those subjects.
3) Easter. Scott came over and we had a big, elaborate meal. Appetizers of honeydew-ham sailboats and croissants, a hearty meal of honey-glaxzed ham and all sorts of veggies. And of course, chocolate eggs for dessert! (Thank you Martha Stewart, for the instructions. You may be a convict and sell disgustingly overpriced goods, but at least you have good recipes)
4) We got Gerbils! We started out with two cute little munchkins (Bit and Byte) in a little tank. Sadly, though, since we had bought them at a very young age, one came down with wet-tail (chronic diarhea) and died. We were pretty shocked, but when we brought him back to the store, we decided to get a few more gerbils, hoping to introduce them for poor traumatized Bit. When we got to the next store, though, they were all so damn cute! So we bought two boys and two girls. Only when we got home did we find out we couldn't introduce the girls to Bit, since they'd already bonded with eachother. So now we have three tanks and five gerbils, and we just can't stop playing with them. They are SO cute, and SO smart. Active little buggers, too, they've completely renovated their tanks with tunnels and burrows.
5) I had two job interviews for Astral Media, the people in charge of the movie networks and of Family Channel and Teletoon. If I get this job I will be paid 12 dollars an hour, I will be required to answer questions from customers, and I will receive the movie networks for free! Please please please let me get this job! |

So it's off to a new apartment! (ours is the bottom floor plan) After much money and time spent on travelling to and from school, much stress over living in the dark and trying to keep quiet so our landlord won't be annoyed... well, we've finally done something about it. Now, instead of living in a basement apartment, we'll be on the 22nd floor of a building! We'll have reception on our telephones and our television antennae! We'll have hardwood floors. We'll have no "shared area". We'll have a bedroom with a door. We'll have closets! The place is pretty much soundproof so we can play are music as loud as we want and whenever we want to. There are no restrictions on having guests over, so we'll always be able to have company. We're allowed to paint the apartment, to hang up shelves and paintings. To decorate it any way that we desire, and with much more manageable space to do it in. Hell, we have a sunken livingroom. How cool is that? The landlord will not be so personal, will not expect us to socialize or go to bed at a reasonable time or take out the garbage. We'll have a garbage shoot. We'll have a balcony! Our own little outdoor space where we can sit together and read in the summer nights! Where I can oilpaint! Only one bus will take us to the main subway line. There's a grocery store across the street and a convenience store in our building.
The best part? We're a short walk from school! This means: 1) Access to the Library, and the SMIL (sound and moving image library) so we can borrow free books and movies whenever we want to. 2) Access to the gym, so I can do my workouts on a regular basis. 3) Access to the studio, so I can work on my projects outside of class more easily. 4) Close proximity to all of my York friends, so it's easier to get together with them spontaneously, and so D&D has a more comfortable meeting place. 5) Close proximity to classes so we can sleep in an hour later, so we don't have to depend on busses being punctual, so that if we forget something, we'll be able to go back and get it. 6) During that long period between the morning class and the afternoon one, we can go home and have lunch instead of wandering aimlessly. 7) We won't ever have to worry about spending money on campus food... we can always just walk home and grab something. 8) Access to the pubs. 9) Access to the printers of William Small and the Tel Building. 10) FREEDOM!
So, basically... I am one happy camper, and so is my man. What a great way to start fresh.
