We’ve been working hard to bring you first hand coverage and round-the-clock updates about Russia’s war. At the start of the full-scale invasion, the Kyiv Independent was just a three-month old startup. Since, we’ve become an award-winning news outlet and grown our community to over 22,000 members.Our main source of revenue is recurring contributions from our members. It’s this support that allows us to report from the front lines, investigate corruption, and tell the human stories of the war. Recently, we launched a department specifically dedicated to reporting on Russia’s war crimes and creating investigative documentaries in both English and Ukrainian – the ability to plan for the future and grow our team is made possible by the support of our members.The Kyiv Independent was launched by the former editorial team of the Kyiv Post — 30 journalists and editors who were fired by the newspaper’s owner for defending editorial independence. In November 2021, three days after being fired, we started the Kyiv Independent because Ukraine needs on-the-ground English-language journalism of the highest quality, and our community needs a news source it can trust.We vow to serve as the true, independent global voice of Ukraine.
