Round and glossy, with firm, rich flesh and very few seeds. It has a sweet flavour and can be eaten whole, skin and all; in fact, the skin is so thin and smooth that there is no need to peel it. Nor is there any need to salt it before cooking, as it is not bitter. In short, Longobardi’s ‘Violetta’ is the perfect aubergine. It is no coincidence that this prized ecotype, grown exclusively in the small town on the Tyrrhenian coast of Cosenza, has been recognised as a Slow Food Presidium – a label that protects food biodiversity and the traditional flavours of the region. Has this precious vegetable, versatile in the kitchen and with its unmistakable colour, already won you over? Then let’s find out more about the Longobardi Violetta aubergine.

And that’s not all! As you walk along the paths through the Serre Vibonesi, which link the towns of Serra San Bruno and Mongiana, you’ll come across important industrial sites dating back to the Bourbon era.
