Genealogical Interests

My interest in Wikitree, is firstly to accurately trace back each line of my family tree, finding and providing as many sources, stories and photos as I can, as far back as I can. Secondly, coming back down through the tree, making as many connections to other families as possible, trying to connect to as many cousins as I can. If you have information which connects in with my family. I'd love to hear about it. I also love when cousins are interested in getting involved too. Cousins have been my greatest resource for stories that I hadn't heard before. I am willing to share management of profiles, if you can demonstrate that you have vested interests as a descendant. Feel free to post a message below.

Birth and Childhood

Victoria flag
Ben Molesworth was born in Victoria, Australia

Benjamin Garth Molesworth was born at Box Hill Hospital in 1976 to Gregory Garth Molesworth and Bronwen Joy (nee Watkins), after a shotgun wedding, as a result of being conceived out of wedlock. Should have been heir apparent to Judge Robert Molesworth, barring this delayed wedding, and the delayed or non-existent wedding of great great grandfather William Farnham Molesworth. DNA Matches identify these connections and many others through these parents.

This is a picture of a single story block of four two bedroom attached units, grabbed from Google Street View.
30 Junction St.([1])
Ben lived with his parents at 30 Junction St, Ringwood (1976-1978), although he hasn't any memories of living here. Ben's earliest memories are at their next government commission house, at 125 Loughnan Rd, Ringwood, (1978-1980), after his brother James was born in early 1978. Simple things like the layout of the house, and little events in the house, like dealing with a huntsman spider, playing in the backyard, visiting his uncle Richard in the unit in the backyard, and washing our hands in the bathroom, which ended in his brother being badly burnt.
This is a picture of a single level government housing three bedroom home, with a single car carport and a single car garage, both under the house. The house block is on a slop falling away gradually to the right, and sharply at the front of the block, creating the need for a steep driveway, and a two metre retaining wall, holding the front lawn and garden up. There are stairs up from the driveway to the garden, then another set of stairs from the garden up to a small verandah on the front of the house. The photo is an old square shaped colour photo, rounded at the corners. The house has since been removed for the Eastlink Tollway.
125 Loughnan Rd.
He also remembers travelling to his fathers workplaces (panel beater at Molan St (now Gemini) in the old styled hanger sheds, & then the panel beater at the bottom of Oban Rd (now Oban Rd Panels)), to deliver lunch during the day. They would go shopping at Eastland Shopping Centre, before the first expansion, with the unique 'E' shaped door handles on the glass doors, and the centre stage area with walkway from the upper level to the lower level around the centre square. The healthcare nurse was located on the edge of the carpark, but moved from the north side to the east side, where kids were lined up to be injected. They often visited Ben's grandparents at 14 Ardgour St, North Balwyn, where we would do all sorts of things, such as playing in the yard, or inside, or having meals, or watching slide shows. We'd also visit Grandad and Eveline at 36 Rose St, Box Hill. Attending Mitcham Baptist, on Mitcham Rd, Mitcham, with Rev. Ken Wade, who I believe later ended up at Balwyn Baptist. We also often went to Balwyn Baptist with Grandma and Grandpa.

They moved to 70 Lee Ann Cres, Croydon, (1980-1987), and Ben has too many memories to list them all off. A massive amount of time playing in the backyard, including specific memories of a trench going in to connect the mains sewage, the garden, BBQ, shed and side gate being built, and step down the middle of the yard being dug in. Certainly many memories of learning to ride a bike, to going up and down the street to many friends, to so many other memories. Ben's father moved to Bowater Scott for work, working a rotating shift, which took their father away from them most of the time. Either he was working, or the house had to be silent because he was sleeping, or he had time off, and would be away from home playing golf continually. The house had to be absolutely perfect at all times, or there would be hell to pay, with screaming and beltings. We learned very quickly that nothing in the house could be moved, but occasionally the furniture would be rearranged in the lounge to create cubbies, but it was always short lived, and always cleaned up properly, so that nothing would be out of place again. Ben recalls lots of screaming matches between his parents, with one ending with his father storming out of the house again, and his mother sitting on a bench in the corner of the kitchen sobbing, and claiming to have been beaten, which he never saw, though she often had many bruises. Ben and James were shipped off to Uncle Des & Auntie Margaret for a month at 18 Stanley Ave. Although Ben has good memories of going around the backyard on the motorbike with Mark, and playing with his really old Matchbox cars, he began having recurring nightmares from that time, of being lost at Chadstone Shopping Centre, and being killed as he was being processed through a meat mincer.

Before Ben began attending kindergarten, his mother took off with Ben and James from their father, to live on a farm (26 Reedy Creek Rd, Ensay VIC 3895) for possibly several months. He has a number of memories, such as the cattle grid coming through the gate, and chasing sheep, watching sheep shearing, and sneaking into the apple orchard with James for some apples. Also the old style house, with the distinctive smells and old flywire doors. The manse that Bruce and Heather lived in at Dunolly Uniting church was similar. Speaking about familiar smells though, one pleasant smell was the smell of onion weed around the tennis courts behind St.Luke's Anglican Church Vermont. Someone at the farm had a child at the local kinder, which was just before Ben was due to begin kinder himself. Ben was sent up to stay with Sylvia and Barry at some stage, possibly through the Christmas holidays before coming back to attend kinder. It was notable to Ben that his step auntie Musette was only two years older than himself. Apparently during this stay, Ben had a thing for bananas at this time, eating massive numbers of them. Ben loved the big truck that Barry would park at the house in Shepparton. Unfortunately it was only a few months later that he would die in a tragic road accident in that vehicle, with another truck.

Back at home, Ben's mother was trying to teach Ben and James the books of the New Testament at home, in between constantly needing to clean to keep their father in a good mood. She often had Amy Grant, or Evie playing in the house. Ben trusted in Jesus Christ as Saviour around 1980-1982, recognising his need for Christ, as a response to a song, Into My Heart. In his first year in Sunday school at Mooroolbark Baptist before their final extentions, Ben's first year in Sunday School was when he first had some understanding of the Gospel, and happily accepted the gift of Christ, and was given a Good News Bible. Before attending Sunday School, which commenced for Ben when he began Primary School, Ben attended Barngeong Reserve Kindergarten in 1981. Ben attended Croydon North Primary School from 1982 to April 1987,[2] except for the first term of 1986, when Ben and James attended [3], with a temporary surname of Wilson (after Wilson's Promontory) to hide from their father. But back to that later. Ben often be walked to kindergarten down the street, and would walk to school most days from Prep onward. From Grade 1, Ben was handed a key to let himself and James in at home, because their mother began working at Safeway at Chirnside Park Shopping Centre, where they would also do their regular shopping. It was in a major storm during this time, that the roof collapsed in the centre, and needed rebuilding. Bushy Creek, which backed onto houses along Lee Ann Cres, also flooded, which it did often, flooding into houses backing onto the creek, and blocking Maroondah HWY below the Primary School. We would usually use the opportunity to go down the street and play in the flood waters.

This is a picture of a single level three bedroom brick home, with a driveway in and down the right side of the house, and a turn in to the front of the house. The house block slops very gradually down, away from the road and to the right. The garden around the front of the house to the left, has new sleepers, fresh red tan bark, and small plants in the garden. There are stairs up from the driveway to a small landing pad at the front door. The photo is an old square shaped colour photo, rounded at the corners.
70 Lee Ann Cres.
One day in grade 1, we were warned that a man with a van had tried to abduct one of the children near the shops next to the Primary School, and that we had to watch out and stay away from strangers, while walking to and from school. Around this time, we became familiar with the Safety House program, and we had a Safety House sticker placed on our letter box.

In 1982, a sister Bonnie was born into the family, which was expressed to be an accident. In fact, it was expressed to Ben from his mother, that after James was born, their father no longer had any interest in having children, seeing them as an annoyance that had to be dealt with, with little to know reward. So from about the time we moved to Croydon, until his parents divorced in 1991, Ben felt like a generally unwanted third wheel in relation to his father. Ben's father found it a chore to teach the boys things, such as riding a bike. If he could start us going on something, then immediately walk away while we kept going on our own, he would be happy. He did on a couple of occasions take Ben and James with the BMX's that they were given, down to Chirnside Park, to ride around the carpark after the close of business on Saturday, which was considered a real treat. It was told Ben by his mother, that when they went to a park as a family, that she would throw a ball back and forth with Ben's father, but his father had no interest in doing so with Ben and James, because they weren't able to do it properly. Bonnie though being a girl, apparently renewed his interest in having children, so long as they were female. Ben and James recall that Bonnie seemed to cry continually for the first five years of her life, for reasons which we couldn't work out. Around this time, Ben's parents went out and bought a Border Collie bitch, which was a runt of the litter. On the way home with the pup, we were asked if we had any ideas for names, to which Ben suggested Christie, after a girl at kindergarten. Christie was a beloved family pet, who had four litters of pups, having a litter of 10, then 4, then 8, and then 3. From memory, two or three pups died in the first litter.

Some time after this, Ben's mother left again, and Ben understood for the first time, that each time one or the other left, it was for the purpose of ending the marriage. Charles and Val Gray had recommended a senior lady, Mrs Black, who came and lived in the house for several weeks, so that their father could continue going to work, and Ben and James could continue going to school. One morning their father served up bread and milk, which they thought was one of the most awful things they had ever tasted, and definitely needed a lot of sugar to make it palatable. One night James and their father had terribly sore stomach's which they attributed to dinner, though Ben was fine. Their father called for an emergency doctor to come out in the middle of the night, and James fell asleep before the doctor arrived. Their father was rushed to hospital with either a burst, or almost burst appendix, from which if he had of waited until morning, apparently he wouldn't have survived. After this, they attended Elkanah for some couselling, and we moved to either Heathmont Baptist, or Warrandyte Gospel Chapel. Their Dad left some time after this, staying with the Gray's, and a second time as well, being gone for some time on both occasions. Around this time, their mother switched to working at Croydon Safeway. On a couple of occasions their Dad drove them up to spy on their mother, who was making out with a guy from her work, over by the Croydon library. At the end of grade 3, Ben's mother took the three children and ran away from their father again, and was gone for four months. They initial stayed at a women's shelter at Belgrave, but then moved for the new school term, to Maribyrnong, where they had to change their name to enter protection because of their father's threats. While at Belgrave, they were taken to Puffing Billy, and introduced to Alex Kenworthy and his wife in a park. Ben's mother confided in Ben, that she was sleeping with this man, and that he had promised to leave his wife. She wanted to know from our one introduction, whether or not Ben thought Alex would be a better husband that Ben's father. When they got back together this time, they moved to Ringwood Baptist on Dublin Road. Ben's father revealed to Ben, that he would stop going to church out of embarassment, because Ben's mother would be sleeping through the men at the church, until they broke they separate, then would be forced to go to couselling for the sake of the kids, and would get back together and go to a new church. Ben's mother said that she always lived in fear of Greg, because he would get so extremely angry every time the house got just a little bit out of order.

This is a picture of a single three bedroom home, with a dual level extention out the back. There is a gate at the end of the driveway up the left of the yard, with a double garage up behind the gate. The house block is almost flat, just gradually going up away from the road. There are a few steps going up to the from door of the house, tucked in behind the front bedroom. The garden here is fairly establish, around the edge of a lot reasonable sized front lawn. The photo is a grab from Google Street View.
33 Roselyn Cres.([4])

In April 1987, they moved to 33 Roselyn Cres, Boronia, which was in City of Knox, and near to Knox City Shopping Centre, where we started shopping before numerous expansions. Ben, James and Bonnie attended Studfield East Primary School,[5] which was for under two years for Ben. Ben then graduated to Fairhills High School (1989-1995), where he attended until completion, repeating year 11 after his parents divorced.

College and Marriage

Ben moved to Adelaide in 1998, and studied at Adelaide College of Ministries (1998-2000), while attending Oakden Baptist Church (now City Reach Baptist, and formally Prospect Baptist). He paid his way, by working Monday's for Sharman Sheetmetal, and continuing part-time work for The Disney Store Australia (1997-2001), beginning at Doncaster Shoppingtown, and continuing at Westfield Marion. Ben lived with Michael Homburg at 42 Leighton Ave, Klemzig, and for a short time, with Mark and Cynthia Hall at 2 Leighton Ave.

Ben met Megan Coombe, in about June of 1999, at Nailsworth Church of Christ, and attended Megan's 18th birthday in August. Ben proposed marriage to Megan Coombe in 1999 (Dec 31st, with about 3 seconds to go before midnight). She accepted the proposition in the next millennium (2000, a couple of minutes later). They married in 2001. Ben and Megan continued in Adelaide until the end of 2001, and moved back to Melbourne.

But the site was inhospitable, so the school was eventually moved to the Croydon side of Brushy Creek and rebadged. Hence State School 1992 (North Croydon) opened on the Maroondah Highway in 1925. Enrolments reached 355 in 1969, but declined thereafter, ultimately leading to its absorption by Croydon Primary in 2010. Although Croydon North was closed, the buildings were retained when acquired by the Blackburn English Language School, which opened its Maroondah campus in 2012.

However, the Defence Department occupied the school in the early 1940s, leading to the school’s relocation to a new site on Warrs Road in 1942. In the 1970s a large shopping centre opened on the edge of the school. What became known as Highpoint Shopping Centre eventually absorbed part of the school site when it was closed at the end of 1993. The remainder of the site became a housing estate.

Studfield was settled residentially during the 1960s. Its primary school opened in 1965 with fewer than 200 pupils, and by 1969 it had over 650 pupils. Studfield East primary school was opened in 1971. By 1993 the first generation of families had grown up, and the first of the two schools was closed. It was developed as the Knox City housing estate. Studfield East (merged with Studfield and changed to Yawarra school and then Knox Central primary school in 2013) had 141 pupils in 2014. Studfield has a local shopping centre on Stud Road, about 500 metres from the regional Knox City Shopping Centre (1977) and the adjoining business offices. Further north there is the Knox Club Hotel.

In what to most seems to be uncertain times, these times have not been uncertain to those who are students of the Bible. This Corona virus is not to be mistaken as a sign of the times, however, the way governments of the world have responded to this virus, makes it obvious that the fulfilment of Biblical prophecies is coming upon us quickly. My expectation is that the true church will be removed off the world by God, so that punishment of the world can quickly follow. How long it takes to begin, I don't know, but it will last for seven years, and then the world will be brought to it's final war, in a day. If you read this before the church is removed, you need to trust in Jesus for your salvation. If you read this after we are removed, you need to start reading the end of the Bible, from James to Revelation. You need to start looking for instruction from the two witnesses in Jerusalem, and reach out to the Jewish witness who start preaching Jesus. Do not take the mark of beast in Revelation 13. When the Prince to come sets up his statue in the Jewish temple, your fate will be sealed, it will be too late. Look up my Facebook profile, if you want to find more details, but most importantly, start digging into your Bible.

Hi Ben,

The Australia Project are checking in with our members. It has been wonderful to have your involvement in the project for the last year, helping improve Australian profiles on WikiTree. We are so grateful for the work that Australia Project members do to record Australian genealogy on WikiTree.

Please reply to this profile comment, or send me a private message (don't add a new comment on your profile page, as we don't get notified about that!). Let us know if you'd like to stay on in the Project, and what you plan to work on during the coming year. If you would like to change any of the teams you are on we can make those changes for you. Our teams are listed on Australia Project Teams. There's no need to worry if you're concerned about possible time constraints. If life gets in the way, and you end up not being able to do anything we totally understand.

If you have developed new interests, and you no longer want to be a member of the Australia Project, please let us know so that we can remove you from the membership list. You are always welcome to rejoin at any time.

One of the best things about being in a WikiTree project, is working together. Many Australia Project members are active on Discord. It's a great way to discuss your interests with other members of your project team/s. If you're not on Discord yet, here's some information - Help:Discord. If you are already on the WikiTree Discord server, let us know, and we can send you an invite link to the dedicated Australia Project server (WikiAustralia) where all our team channels are located. It's a fun and friendly place to chat with others about genealogy. We also communicate through the Australia Project google group, and on the G2G - make sure you add the tag Australia.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Good morning,

I see you've been adding Find A Grave memorials sources to profiles. That's excellent! WikiTree Plus can do a lot of neat things when it can see a Find A Grave memorial number in a source, such as hinting additional relationships, letting us know we may have typo'd a birth/death date, or indicating that we may have accidentally cited a different family member's memorial.

Some of the ones you've added cite an index of Find A Grave memorials, like Ancestry's index or FamilySearch's index, and not the source citation from the bottom of the memorial itself. Unfortunately these indexes include neither the URL nor memorial number in their citation so WikiTree Plus can't work its magic. This tends to happen more frequently when importing GEDCOM files.

Help:Find A Grave#Links in source citations has a great guide on how to cite the original Find A Grave memorial, and it's really easy too -- just paste it right over! :) There's an extra step if you'd like a little pizzaz in how it's linked (see above article), but the additional features unlock with or without that last step.

Wishing all the best to you and yours,

Jeff

Hello Ben,

It's time for the annual Australia Project membership checkin. Thank you so much for contributing to the project and Australian profiles on WikiTree during the last year. We really appreciate you!

If you would like to stay in the project, please reply to this message or send me a private message to let us know that you would like to stay on. Alternatively, if your WikiTree and research interests have moved away from Australia, please let us know and we can remove you from the membership list for the moment. We are also keen to know if you want to make any changes to the team or teams that you want to focus on. Take a look on Australia Project Teams to see what teams there are to choose from. Thank you Gillian. I'm still slowly working my way through improving profiles, generally connected within my CC7. Managed to get past the 2000 mark, and recently somebody closeby has been adding numbers too, which is helping my number. Someone paid for me to get a DNA test done, which I am waiting for the results, and it has given me a temporary account on Ancestry, so for a couple of months, I am working as quick as possible, to download as many sources as I can get, before my time runs out. Then it'll be back here, to add all these sources that I didn't have before. So, yes. Please keep me on the Australia project, with my main focus on Victoria, though I often stray into neighbouring states. If I could add a suggestion. Could we please put a notice out to all those people following the tag Victoria, to instead switch to Victoria_Australia, to differentiate with those following the name Victoria, or following another Victoria. Thank you for the continued team work. Ben.

Gillian. Haven't really had many problems with the Victoria tag. It is rarely an issue. But, because the other tag exists (Victoria_Australia), it would seem to me, to make sense to use the second tag, if only everyone would be consistent about it. I had more problems when I tried to follow England, or English, or whatever it was. I got so many notifications everyday, for people commenting on the surname, that I stopped following it. Besides which, it has been easier to stick with family research in Australia, because stepping back to the old country, takes a lot of extra work. Ben.

My current speculation is that the rapture of the church could occur at pentecost 4/5th Jun 2022, and tribulation may begin 26th Sept 2022. I am not a prophet, this is speculation. Educated perhaps. If this occurs, you can see that this message was posted before the 9th April 2022. This first paragraph was posted, earlier than that, but hidden from those not on the trusted list. Aliens do not exist, but satan and demons do. Don't believe the lies, grab a Bible and start focusing on the end of Ezekiel, Joel, Zechariah, and the last 8 books in the New Testament.

There is further speculation that a rapture event may happen at the Feast of Trumpets, which is later in the year, in September, before the start of the new Shemah cycle on 26th. We will see. When it comes down to it, how well do we actually know how accurately years were kept track of, particularly B.C., but with current world events, it certainly looks like the time is extremely close.

To my children, if you are left behind. We loved you, though you rejected us. We loved you enough to not compromise on truth. If you read this after we are gone. Do not take the jab. I would much rather have my head taken off, and know that I didn't reject God, than take the coming mandate, and be rejected by God in eternity. Don't be deceived.

So many things are lining up for Feast of Trumpets. Queen's death and Charles coronation, announcement of a one world religion, including places of worship being constructed for joint worship of combined religions in the new one world religion, announcement of a cashless currency taking over, the announcement of red heffers being ready for sacrifice. It is quite possible, that at the end of the blowing of trumpets for the feast this coming weekend, 24-26 September 2022, the rapture of the true church could quite conceivably occur.

Why there seems to be so much? The history of sin on earth will be approximately 6000 years old in about 7 years. It is speculated that God may use a 7000 year time table for dealing with sin. Israel became a nation 75years ago, which would seem to be an indication that things need to wrap up quickly. Passages in Daniel and Revelation seem to point to Prince Charles coat-of-arms, which would make the death of the Queen, curious timing. The apparent Shemitah year which would seem to have some truth, because of 9/11 and the financial collapse of 2008. A gathering of world religions earlier this month, declaring a New World Religion is being implemented. The push for a cashless society in congress the other day. The practise of forced vaccination over the last two years, to psychologically prepare people for the Mark of the Beast. The red heifers arriving in Israel this week, and being available as of the Feast of Trumpets, for sacrifice, to prepare the priests for a new temple. Israeli Prime Minister calling for peace talks in the UN a few days ago. Feast of Trumpets ceremony over the next couple of days, where a last trump is blown, or anticipated. Lots and lots of things seem to be pointing to something. Lastly, lots of people coming out with fake news, and lots of speculation, could either be to discredit a real event coming, or to stop people listening to fantatical Christians again. I believe the rapture will precede the tribulation. All this seems to point to something, but curiously, none of it is hard facts, unless something actually happens.

Update: With hours to go now, there is lots of reasons why the timing could be off. But, whether now or not. Eventually it will happen. We'll see. Feast of Trumpets 2023 is looking more likely, with many new things lining up.

A day with the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as a day. So we see that God's program is probably 7000years. Take 1000 years off for the Millenium, and 7 years for the tribulation. We currently seem to be at year 5992/3, plus 2000 years since Christ died and rose. Plus all these things shall finish in the generation of people who came into the land of Israel in 1948, of which it is now 74years. Everything has continued to escalate around the world. Keep looking at events in Israel, and with their neighbours, and Russia and Iran, Date calculations may have been incorrect for one reason or another, but things still must be close. It really can't go much longer.

September 1st, 2023 UPDATE: Things are looking a lot more inline for Feast of Trumpets, September 15-17, 2023. UN is passingh a new 7 year treaty, called the 2030 Agenda, being pushed by K.Charles3 & Pope, on 18-19 Sept. There are signs suggesting that Revelation 12 is being currently fulfilled in the stars. There is a stronger push toward the days of Noah, and days of Lot. Wars and rumours of wars. There has been an increase in earthquakes and natural disasters, not to mention the C-19, which there are talks about coming back around October. Not to mention the increased talk of aliens (which are really just demons). If these things come to pass, grab a Bible from wherever you can get one. The gospel won't be the same as before. Concerntrate on James through Revelation in the Bible. Should also see Psalm 83 and Ezekiel 38-39 come into alignment. Revelation 13-14 is something to more particularly pay attention to. Do not take the mark of the beast, and expect to be beheaded for the priviledge. Follow the true witnesses. This will be a time of great deception.

Dear Ben,

The Profile Improvement Project (PIP) is performing its first annual check-in with our project members. Please review the following and let us know if you are content where we have placed you or would like to be more involved.

We are in the process of transitioning to a team structure. There will be three participant PIP Teams to start -- The Maintenance Category Team, the Unknowns Team, and the Biography Team. There is also the Voyage Team which guides new Voyagers. See the Profile Improvement Project Teams for a brief outline of each team.

You're currently identified as a member of the Biography Team Level 1, working on profiles from your own watchlist and whatever else you find. Biography Teams Levels 2 and 3 will work on designated profiles for notables (Level 3) and everyday people (Level 2). Please let us know if you would like to help with a higher-level Bio Team or one of the other Teams.

We would also like to invite you to join the email GoogleGroup and text chat Discord channel for our project. If you request to join our GoogleGroup, please be sure to include your Wiki ID. Neither is required; we also use the Profile_Improvement tag in G2G for Project announcements.

We thank you for all you do to help the Profile Improvement Project and WikiTree. The Project’s mission is to:

  • Make profiles beautiful! We clean up messy biography sections and sources, and try to set standards for attractive, useful, and well-written biographies, starting with those we manage.

We know you’re working on profiles *smile* We would like to hear about successes you’ve had toward the Project’s goals. We would also appreciate any feedback you might have to help us improve the Project. Please share your thoughts in a reply to this comment or privately via private message to either of us.

Please could you reply to this message, to let us know if you would like to stay on in the project and if you are happy with your current role and team involvement. If you would like to do something additional or different, take a look on the Australia Project page to see what other options there are.

It would also be great to get any feedback or suggestions that you have to improve the project.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you Margaret. I would be pleased to continue on as I have been. I have been struggling with current events, to get a lot done, I am continuing to plod along with improvements to Australian profiles.

Actually. I was wondering the other day. As far as Victoria is concerned, would it be unreasonable to make a request to Ales, to include all the townships from the Victorian BDM Abbreviations page. Also further to that, whether it would be possible for Victorian profiles, to automatically have those townships come up as Suggested locations, if we typed in those "Abbreviations, Victoria". It would make it easier for us Victorian's, on the occasions when we don't know where the abbreviations are pointing to.

posted by Ben Molesworth

Thank you for responding to the check-in message, and for your ongoing contributions to WikiTree and the Australia Project, they are much appreciated!

Are you talking about the drop-down location search when you add a place of birth, death, marriage? If so, they come from Family Search, I believe, not from the WT system. Or do you mean something different?

Regards, Margaret

Molesworth-181
Ben Molesworth
When we attempt to type in a location, for Location of Birth, or Marriage or Death, it comes up with an auto complete list of locations, which we can click on, to auto complete the location. This also seems to pull locations in line with the location systems which Ales has in place.

I think firstly, the Victorian BDM Abbreviation page, could help Ales to have a complete list of town locations, available for the auto-complete fields. But also I was thinking, before I became aware of the Abbreviation page, I often didn't know what an abbreviation stood for, and so just left the place, as the abbreviation, as given in the Vic BDM site. Perhaps we could get the Victorian locations entered from the Abbreviation page, and maybe, if we type in the location, (looking for an auto-complete response) as the abbreviations given, that WT could be arranged to recognise the ABB, Victoria, and auto offer the complete Town name, based on the list of abbreviations.

I hope that is a little clearer. I'm not sure if Ales is even aware of that Abbreviations site, or if adding towns like that, is something that is handled by you on the Australian pages.

The auto complete list that comes up when entering data into the BDM location fields comes from Family search, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Location_Fields#Place_Name_Suggestions

The listings Ales uses for the Data Doctor suggestions are different, he keeps listings of acceptable values that won't create an error, eg. a location xxxx, Victoria or xxxx, Colony of Victoria, or xxxx, Victoria, Australia would all be ok, but xxxx, Vic, Australia would attract an error (suggestion).

There was talk in the google group a while back of getting FS to add the Australian locations with colony instead of state before 1900, (I know that's not what you're suggesting) similar to how the uk ones are done, but no-one volunteered to take it on. I'm not sure what the process would be with FS, you can add a new place, but again, that's not what you are saying.

Maybe worth you raising it in the google group?

Cheers Margaret

Hi Ben and Margaret,

Sorry to chime in here, was just reading about this area of place names and I am not a great subscriber to the FS suggestions at times as there are often incorrect. Ben has a valid point with the Victorian place names. The Vic BDM abbreviations place names is a good resource, but also that often does not have all the correct information either or sometimes does not have the abbreviation. I totally agree with the idea of 'Colony' names etc, especially with those of convict origins where they were transported to Norfolk Island, New South Wales Colony - as this is never an option, it needs to be typed. That also goes along with Tasmania being Van Diemen's Land first. That would be great if it was available as an auto suggestion too. The other thing I was thinking about was when you have an actual address of a birth or death it being able to accept the house number, street, suburb etc. ie. put in 5 Smith Street, Collingwood, Victoria, Australia and it would still auto generate the suburb, State, Country as normal but also accept the address. Just a thought!. Thanks for all the work you do. Ben is my inspiration cousin! Keryn

Some great thoughts though Keryn. I'm not sure if Margaret is the right person for it, but she is certainly extremely knowledgeable, and a great help. It may even be worth mentioning that point in a G2G at some stage. It's probably been mentioned before. I know I've seen it raised before.

Ben and Keryn, the drop down suggestions and location field names have been discussed in G2G at different times, there are many differing opinions and preferences. I'm planning to do a post about location field names in the project google group this week, so watch out for that.

Regarding Emily Bourman-41. I grew up near Mintaro. It should be possible to answer the G2G Bourman Australia brick wall question. I make note that Mintaro sat on one of the main routes to export copper ore from the Burra Mine. I suspect that Fred Bourman was one of the many drivers of bullock drays that carried ore before the steam trains reached Burra in 1870.

I am amused by the high capability of Wikitree users that have responded to Gary Bourman's question with a lot of good information.

Hi Ben, I think the best suggestion for your category request is to use this form, https://www.wikitree.com/contact/category/ and include the link to your G2G post. It goes to the Categorization Project leader, who will give you an answer. I'm happy to do all the routine Aussie ones, but I'm not sure where this would fit into the existing structure.

Cheers, Margaret

Thank you Margaret. I agree. I just wasn't sure where to send it, considering I wasn't sure who should handle it either. Thank you for the link, and for your help.

Hmm. Thank you Margaret. I was sure it was coming up as Saint yesterday. But it is certainly St today. Thank you for the great job you are doing. I'm hoping that it is helpful, my trying to find as many details as I can, when putting in a cemetery request. If it helps speed up your job. Thank you again.

Well blow me down if you can't add the Family Star again...Oh well...It's added again in the Virtual universe!. At least we know you're a family Star multiple times. As far as the profiles formatting, you know that's just me as a stickler for correctness...:)

Just a quick request, if a cemetery category (or any category) doesn't already exist, ie. you get that banner message when you save your edit, don't add it to the profile, unless you are going to complete the category creation. It gives you a "red" category on the profile, and adds to the category error list. Much easier to just add the request to our page, as you have been doing. I've fixed up Skipton cemetery so it's all good now.

Thanks heaps, cheers, Margaret

Hi! Just a reminder to change {{Sandbox Liz4 to {{Relationship Sticker & {{Sandbox Liz5 Sticker to {{Connection

I still have coding that works to show Relationship & Connection in my Sandbox pages, but I won't for much longer & it is different than the coding in the live pages. When I was testing the changes, I opened my profile page in one tab and edited it in another. By comparing a preview of the edited page to the live page in the other tab, I could see what changed. See examples on Template: Relationship Sticker & Template: Connection Sticker to get the coding to change the image (or change to an image of your choosing... image=).

Cheers, Liz

P.S. No, I don't know that you're using the old template on your page because I can see your page. I can see that you are because the "pages using the template" link from Liz4/Liz5 says you are. Liz5's also says it's being used on Russell-3909, Molesworth-181, Molesworth-182, Molesworth-183, & Molesworth-447.

Hi Ben.

The United Kingdom Project has not been active since 2018 and we are now completely closing it down. We are removing all UK project badges. If you still have an interest in the UK and have not already joined another project, then you will need to join the England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales Project by answering one or more of their G2G posts. If your interest is in the British Isles and British Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories, then please contact me directly.

Regards Joan

Just wish I could get my head around it more at the moment. So much I want to do, but just a little limited at the moment.

Hi Ben! Thanks for joining the LiveCast earlier. I've been poking around your trail to Albini-39 that Special:Relationship found... I think I posted in the Chat that Scrope-28 was badged by the project. I did the RF from you to him - https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:Relationship&action=calculate&person1_name=Scrope-28&person2_name=Molesworth-181 - and have just added some info to profiles on (and off) the trail:

Hi, Ben!

Thank you for your participation in October’s 2020 Source-a-thon. Your contributions helped us to clear over 57,000 profiles that needed sourcing. This makes our Shared Tree all that much better.

Keep up the great work!

Hi Ben,

The Australia Project leadership team are carrying out a check-in to see how you are going in the project and especially to thank you for all your work on Australian profiles on WikiTree. We really value your participation.

Please could you get back to me by private message to let me know if you are happy with your current role and team involvement within the project or if you would like to do something additional or different. Currently you are on the Victoria team. If you would like a change, you can check on the Australia Project page to see what other options there are.

It would also be great to hear any feedback and any suggestions that you have to improve the project. On a practical note, if you are a member of the google group, are you receiving messages ok? Also do you have Australia as one of the tags you are following on the G2G? Don't forget to add it in if you don't have that tag yet.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards

Margaret Haining Membership Coordinator

Thanks for the heads-up on the two wives of Henry Alexander Beale. ie. Alice Myrtle x 2.

Alice Myrtle was married again after Henry died. She married Jim Ross and it was a childless marriage. I really had no need to include it in the tree so I removed her as a wife. I hope that was OK. Cheers... Graeme

Hi Benjamin,

Thanks for choosing the Ireland Project.

The Ireland Project (previously the Irish Roots Project) has now changed its structure into Teams. We require everyone with the Ireland Badge to be a member of at least one Team or Sub-Team and our google group. See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Ireland for details. The Teams are :-

  • 1. Categories Team
  • 2. Counties Team
  • 3. Managed Profiles Team
  • 4. Membership Team
  • 5. Profile Improvement Team
  • 6. Topics Team
  • 7. Diaspora

? Can you let me know which team(s) you’d like to join.

Many thanks,

Maria

Hi Benjamin,

We realise the time has come to dissolve the UK Project in favour of the individual country projects of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

We are checking in with all UK badge holders to find out which country project(s) you would like to be in so you can collaborate with other members, have the opportunity to select which team(s) you would like to join, and so we can ensure you have all the correct badges.

Please respond by PM to let us know which country project(s) you would like to be in. Please don’t assume we know. We are effectively starting from scratch to make sure no one falls through the cracks.

Once you have done this, the Coordinator for Membership in the relevant country project(s) will be in touch to help get you situated.

Many thanks,

Susie

Hi Benjamin, I've just made some changes to Affleck-248 (Harriet Affleck/Bridges/Molesworth). The records I've found say her first marriage was to John Thomas Bridges instead of ST Bridges as it currently stands (eg http://www.thepeerage.com/p15209.htm#i152088, https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N2WB-LXF). Is ST Bridges a different person or should it be changed to John Thomas?

FYI, concerning the Iwardby question, these days Wikitree automatically places links to any G2G discussions about a profile, in the top right corner so we don't need to post a separate message about it on the profile any more.
