Seoul is silent. There are no cheers to celebrate the coming of a new year. It is solemn. The bosingak bell rings into the darkness, in remembrance, to mourn the victims who lost their lives in the tragic plane crash and to wish their souls find ease

Local reports are still in shock tonight’s events. While they commend the South Korean people who were able to mobilize and protect the country so quickly, they also keep repeating that they couldn’t have imagined that this would have ever happened

It’s past 2am in Seoul. People aren’t leaving the National Assembly premise. They’re still outside. If anything, more have gathered. They are singing and waving flags in unison, doing chants that first started, “begone martial law!” which has changed to, “begone Yoon Suk Yeol!”

Lawmakers here are saying they need to stay inside the National Assembly until the president lifts martial law. For this to happen, Yoon has to hold a cabinet meeting to lift the decree but it’s being reported there is no movement in the Blue House

In the spirit of the holidays, South Koreans are singing impeachment carols for President Yoon Suk Yeol. Feliz Navi-get-impeached!

Martial law can be lifted by a majority vote in parliament. But am hearing the police is barricading the entrance to the building with buses

More and more reports coming in that South Korean citizens are rushing to the National Assembly. They are driving and if roads are blocked, they are walking, even across bridges. Less than an hour ago there was less than 100 people near parliament. Now it’s filled with people

It’s interesting to see lawmakers on both sides of the fence telling soldiers and policemen to “go back to your original posting” and “you need to leave,” that this is unconstitutional. All members of parliament have a relationship to the military, but they’re firm in their anger
