Canadian singer Patrick Bernhardt (or Bernard) composed electronic adaptations of Hindu psalms, sung in Sanskrit and arranged for guitar, piano, and synthesizer. His style is as ethereal as Enya's, although inspired by different cultures. The half-hour Song Of The Universal Light, from Atlantis Angelis, displays a remarkable ability to evoke ancient, exotic, and mystical atmospheres. Shamanyka expands the repertoire to include the music of Native Americans, Africa, Sufism, and Jewish traditions. The rhythms become increasingly prominent until, on Reconciliation, Bernhardt even employs a rock band to accompany his mantras.
Mantra Mandala (1997) returns to his favorite style, the soft/dreamy/exotic blissful ecstasy.
Manuscrits du Silence (1998) adds tribal drumming.
