Although they are a classic power trio, the Miracle Room are counted among the most experimental formations in New York. In their sonic maelstroms, which are inherently infused with free-jazz improvisation and psychedelic feedback, they incorporate homemade instruments and found noises at rhythms that are generally wildly tribal. The group was actually formed in Austin, Texas, by Stephen Marsh (guitar and vocals), a member of the Terminal Mind who had recorded an EP in 1979, but they moved to Manhattan in 1988, where they became a regular fixture at the newly opened Knitting Factory.
Their self-titled 1990 EP (for Bar None) is one of the most original records of the era.
