Last week the Anchorage Alaska Stake had an Aaronic Priesthood Commemoration Camp Out (better known as a Father-Son Camp out.)
The camp site was in Girdwood which was nice since it is only 45 minutes away and a beautiful drive along the coast to get there. Brent and Jacob went down in the early afternoon on Friday to help get things set up and organized.
Most of the other campers arrived in the late afternoon and early evening. The Stake leaders provided dinner that night which consisted of hamburgers, hot dogs, and barbecued chicken. Jacob said the food was excellent.
After dinner, there was a camp fire program. The Scouts in Brent's troop did some fun skits. The group then sang songs and the Stake President spoke. The purpose of the camp activity was to remember and celebrate the restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood to the Prophet Joseph Smith on May 15, 1829. (See
here for more information.)
Jacob was the bugler for the activity. At night he played "Taps" to let everyone know it was time for bed (even thought the sun was still up.) The next morning he played "Reveillee" to wake everyone up. The Stake leaders provided a breakfast of pancakes and bacon.
After breakfast they did a service project for Girdwood Parks and Rec department by spreading 42 yards of gravel. Each yard was about 1.5 tons of weight.
Along with doing service and enjoying the companionship of the other men and boys, Brent and Jacob had a nice time relaxing, enjoying the the beautiful scenery, and being with friends.
The Camp Out was a great success.
