Like Blackberries

It seems that I get this running bug every six months.  I run a bit, I stop running for months, the cycle repeats.

Yesterday, I ran about three miles with the Chubby Beagle.  Looking at my dailymile.com log, it seems that I have been steady for at least the last three weeks.  Maybe this is the end to the stop, start, repeat cycle.

On our run yesterday, I noticed that the balckberries along the path are beginning to ripen.  Three weeks ago, they were pale, green and hard.  Now, most of them wear a bright red color and are softening.  A few could actually be considered ripe- plump, juicy, soft and a shiny purplish black.  Like the blackberries, I am hoping for a running routine that continues to ripen- from our current run/walks to a 5K soon to half marathon in the fall.

Resolution Run

For the New Year, I volunteered at the Resolution Run. Here's the news story about the Run. That's me screaming, "Race Day Registration!" at the beginning. Ah, 15 minutes of fame!

Dipping A Toe in the Water

Obviously you can't just go from being a total work-aholic for two years to being a runner and workout machine overnight.  It takes some time, you've gotta run a little before you can run a lot, and in my case, you have to walk a little before you can run a little.

So, with that, I am dipping a toe in the water.  On the agenda- a walk today at lunch and beginning some version of Couch to 5K on Friday.  I am also volunteering at the Resolution Run on Friday, which will get me out among the running community that I so love.  I am sure that I will see a number of friendly faces in the crowd.

And, last but certainly not least, I need to go ahead and sign up for the 5K in Morehead City on February 27.  Somehow paying that $25 makes everything official and legit.  There's no turning back once you pay the entry fee!

Hello, Old Friend

So, ummm, it's been a while. Where have I been? Ummm, well, around.

It's been two long years since I last posted on this blog. The primary reason is that the blog is about running and exercising and being a better me and I haven't done much of that in the last two years. What was I doing? Well, working, working a lot and travelling a lot and stressing a lot.

Now, I find myself back to an office in Greensboro, back to a normal job and with that, back to running, exercising and doing all the things that I should have done in the last two years.

I looked briefly at my last posts- the marathon and the VJ half. Hey, at least I left on high note! I am amazed at how much I accomplished, how much my son has grown in the last two years and how far I have strayed from my healthy and fulfilling path.

It's time to get back on track. Come along for the ride!

Brownie Points

Even though the weather is BEAUTIFUL here, I can't seem to get back into my running routine. It's just one of those ruts, I'll be out of it soon enough and on with running.

This morning, I stopped at Bruegger's for a bagel. Yes, I know that they have 400+ calories, but I can't resist. I have eaten two this week and it's only Tuesday!
This morning when I arrived at Bruegger's, the power was out. They were still doling out bagels, but only accepting cash for payments. Fortunately for me, there was cash in my wallet. The lady in line ahead of me had only her debit card. So, I bought her a bagel and coffee, accepted her thanks, and chowed on my bagel. Do I get a pass on those 400 calories for doing a kind deed? I wish.....
