"Turn off the lights, I can't digest my food"

When I was a kid, I remember summer visits with my cousins where we would drive our parents crazy by staying up all night talking and laughing. I remember one night we were being particularly naughty and my aunt Carol came in to quite us. She turned on the lights and Laura said something to the effect of "Turn off the lights mom, I can't digest my food" we laughed at that for years. Lets be real, I'm still laughing about it.
Little did I know at that moment that years later, I would have problems digesting food. For those of you who know, I've had stomach problems for about 10 years now. I first noticed them when I moved away from home. I went to the doctor to be tested and they could never give me a straight answer. "It could be IBS, you could be lactose intolerant or even have Fibromyalgia" Well, I gave up dairy for a while and introduced it back into my diet and I was fine. I did start drinking soy milk and to this day, I'm not much of a milk drinker. I actually prefer Almond milk these days. My symptoms have come and gone over the years and I've managed to basically ignore it despite the stomach aches and pains I continue to have. I have learned that black beans and red onions upset my stomach so I try to stay away from those.
For the last month, I have had a lot of the intense pain come back and feel like I can't get my stomach under control. I've been talking to different people about food allergies and how to test for them. I've had a sneaking suspicion that it could be a wheat allergy. I feel like more and more I know people who have been diagnosed with Celiac's disease which is an allergy to wheat. When they would tell me their symptoms I could relate to them a lot. So, after talking to some people, I've decided to go on a gluten-free diet for a few weeks to see if my symptoms clear up. I want to feel better but, I pray this isn't it because I would have to dramatically change my eating habits if this is the case. I guess if I am allergic to wheat, it'll be nice to finally have my stomach issues under control. I'll just need a lot of love and support. Eating out will be tough but, I guess I'll try to look at this in a really positive light. I'll be eating much healthier. I went to the grocery store to get some gluten free food and I found redvines, my favorite candy! I checked the back and it said "Contains Wheat" I was depressed.

Well, (mom) I know I haven't told you about this but, hopefully it won't be that big of a deal... ok, sorry, I guess it kind of is a big deal but, I just want to get things under control and stop having tummy issues! I'll keep you updated on my findings. So far, I haven't had wheat in my system for 24 hours and I seem to be feeling better. I'm giving it 2 weeks though, just to make sure. I'm going to really miss candy but, if this is what's happening, I'll have to adjust and deal with it. Better that than always having bloating and stomach pain.

"Now I'll never be a teen model"

What have I been up to lately? Ok, I shall tell you.

I dabbled in Modeling. It was just a small dabble, I have a friend who is photographer and he got to use a really expensive, massive lens from Nikon company well, he sent me a text asking me if I wanted to come model for him up and Park City for the day. I said yes. It was probably my 15 minutes of fame. I felt like a starlit getting my pictures taken for an Allure magazine shoot. Here are some pictures of me getting ready for a photo shoot and the actual shoot

Ok, so those were more just for fun. Here's the real shoot:

And... One more for good measure:

I had such a good time and the pictures turned out so well! So will you be seeing my face on billboards along the freeway anytime soon? Only time will tell.

Nice guys finish last. They do!

Having Netflix on Tv is both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because it's awesome and a curse because it's addicting! With that being said, I have been watching My So Called life. A show from the early 90's that I was not allowed to watch. With good reason. I was 11 when it came out. My parents were smart for restricting me from it. It's not for kids. I enjoy it now. Mostly because it makes me thank my lucky stars that the 90's are over and I'm out of high school. Besides the observation that I was too young to watch it when I was a kid I also noticed a few other things.

First: It was only on for one season. I swear I can remember it being talked about for years.

Second and most important: If I had been watching this show as a pre-teen or teen I would have been head over heels in love with the leading man Jared Leto who plays Jordan Catalono. He was everything I wanted as a young girl. He was mysterious and attractive. So dreamy! I wanted a bad boy, a rebel so badly.

Now here's the thing.. there is another male character who plays her neighbor Brian Krakow played by an actor named Devon Gummersall. If I had been watching this as a teenager I would have found him... annoying and probably boring. But, watching this now and seeing how in love with Angela (Claire Daines) I think he is so endearing and I find myself rooting for him. I keep thinking he's the kind of guy I want. He's smart, cute, kind and loyal. His hair in the show needs a lot of help, a whole lot. But, it was the 90's so I won't hold it against him. My curiosity of him did get the best of me so I looked him up on imbd and realized I made the right choice. He's incredibly handsome.

I was just thinking about how if I hadn't spent so much time fawning over the bad boys I might have spent more time actually being with the good ones. And I also wanted to think about all those "Brian Krakows" out there who think all us girls want are the bad boys. I can assure you, we all grew out of that phase!

Isn't he soo dreamy?!
I'll be honest, I searched for the worst picture of him I could find because really he's still HOT! He's just not marriage material ;)
See ladies, we might have looked past him in high school.....
but look at him now! I mean, this is the face of a man I would love to take home to meet my parents!

Chef Kellyanne

Growing up my mom would always ask me to help with the cooking. I would, begrudgingly and always hated it. When I was getting ready to move out on my own, the parents thought it was a good idea for me to learn how to cook then. I would always reply "I don't need to, I'm going to marry a chef" Well, here I am 10 years later and I am not married to a chef. Or even married. I bought a book called "Deceptively Delicious" that was written by the wife of Jerry Seinfeld. I bought it on sale at Seagull book this summer and never opened it.
Lately I've been really trying to eat healthier and exercise more often. I also don't like eating out a whole lot because it's so expensive and I have no idea what I'm putting in my body. So cooking at home seemed like the best option for me. I busted out that cook book and my biggest loser cook book and started searching for recipes that looked easy and sounded good. Out of curiosity I thought it would be great to try the spinach brownies. I made them one sunday and bravely tried them before I let the roomies have a taste. We all really liked them and thought they were really moist. The trick was to let them cool 100% and to put extra chocolate chips in them.

I'll keep you posted on my findings

Ciao!!

{Fashionista}

For those of you who know me well, you know I'm really into fashion. Some might call me a fashionista. After "winterizing" all my clothing by wearing thick tights, boots, scarves and lots of layers, I'm looking forward to spring clothing, new trends and brighter colors. Here are some of my favorites for spring:

Blazers for women!! So cute if they are tailored right. I might even own one with (gasp) shoulder pads!! Don't worry, they're not like 1980's football lineman shoulder pads, just a teeny tiny bit of padding.

Lace tops! (yes, I wear a shirt underneath.. usually an undershirt of the same color) I remember seeing a cream lace bodysuit at Mervyns when I was 10 and I was in LOVE with it even though I didn't own it. I like how some of my childhood favorites are being revamped.

High Waisted Skirts look so classic. I'm always a fan of looking classy and how do you not look classy in a high waisted skirt? Not convinced? Give them a try.

So this one I was just looking for horizontal striped shirts. (which are very very in right now.. I actually have one on right now) I came across this little collage and I loved everything on it! I know some of you will think this is so 1980's of me but, I love white jeans! Always have, always will! There is something so crisp and classic about them. I do agree they can be done horribly wrong but, when they're done right, they are awesome!

Sorry this picture is so tiny, this is for the shoe and color. Wedges and RED!! What a great combo. I would like to pair a Blue and White striped shirt with White jeans and these kick'n red shoes. How very patriotic of me. (side note; I used to want to get married on the 4th of July so I could use those colors as my wedding colors. Navy Blue and White are some of my favorite color combos.)

Ok, so all is well with me!! Just obsessed with clothes as usual!
