The Love of Grandmothers

I always love going home to Mackay - cause I get to raid my grandmothers stash of materials. And on the weekend we went for a drive over to Tim's grandparents and look what I came home with. Now it is on loan - well I think it is anyway - but when we were leaving she said that she hopes to see many lovely things made on it and that she had many years of use out of it as she is sure that I will!

Expect to see lots of things made on it over the next few months - now I just have to work out how to accommodate it for a growing belly!

FlashBack Fridays!

Well here we are back at Friday again. I thought that since last week featured Mum that this week it would be Dad's turn. And that was a challenge in itself. Dad must have been behind the camera most of the time (So I will have to remember to hand the camera to Tim more so there are more photos of Amelia and I - as I seem to be the one behind the camera here.)

The first one is outside the house and the second would be Christmas I would say. Not the best photos of Dad. Looking back on the photos the little pink doll is very similar to one that Amelia now has - which she actually received as a Christmas gift as well!

Enjoy - off to check out everyone else's Flashbacks and will update with who is doing flashback Fridays next week!

Work in Progress Wednesday!

Topsey Turvey Doll is finished - I am really happy with how it turned out. It seemed to take me forever - maybe I should have started off my first knit doll making experience with something like this! She is Little Red Riding Hood at one end and Old Mother Hubbard (or maybe the Grandmother) at the other. She is complete with a bunch of flowers. Tim said that I could have saved a mint on wedding flowers and made my own bouquet out of these!

My other Work In Progress at the moment is this.

Yes Amelia is going to be a big sister! All is going well (except for the horrible morning sickness that I am still experiencing) and this would explain the lack of crafting and sewing getting done at the moment! I am almost 13 weeks so due February 2nd 2008!

To Bendigo and Back!

Amelia and I went for a drive over to Bendigo yesterday to attend the 130th Bendigo Wool and Sheep Expo.

I thought that I was very good and only managed to spend $100 for the day - I could have however spent alot more - but I only bought wool that I was going to use for something - rather than just to add it to my ever growing stash.

I purchased this georgous wool. It is Handspun Polwarth Wool and Hand dyed in Landscape dyes from Tarndwarncoort. It will become a bolero for ME! Cant wait to finish what is on the various needles around the house at the moment so I can make a start on it and see how the colours knit up.

This lot will become a pair of longies or part of a dress or maybe a beanie for Amelia next year (opps - I know that I said that I only bought wool that I knew that was going to get used - but I promise that this will not be off the needles for long!)

A new long sleeved Bib for Amelia - thought it was a great idea and will try and copy it so I have a few extras!

This little fellow - he is a crotcheted finger puppet Ram and Oh so cute!

Cinna - this photo is for you. Remember that knitting comp that you were telling us all about? Well this is the finished product. The girls took out second place in the international competition where you have to Hand clip the wool from the Back of the Sheep and knit it into something in 8 hours. Canada took out first place and next year the girls (opps and shearer) from Bairnsdale hope to take out first!

Also bought some Fibre Trends Patterns. I had a little deal with myself that I would only purchase Australian Wool at the show - there were some nice Italian Wools that were nice to touch but they stayed there!

Here are a few pictures of the fashion parade and livestock for you. Off to knit!

Flashback Fridays

Pip over at Meet me at Mikes
(who got the idea from Angela at Three Buttons)

The rules are - you have to post a photo every Friday pre 1985 - this could be a challenge as I was 7 in 1985!, but I have a few here. Oh and you have to be in it!

I thought that I would start at the very beginning...

Mum and I (oh mum, Love that all in one! Did you know that you would be the hight of fashion now?)

We are heading over to Bendigo on Saturday for the 130th Sheep Show.

I won a ticket off of the lovely Sarah - Thankyou.

Will enjoy looking at all of the wool and checking it all out. Cant wait to touch some of the lovely Australian Wool and see the sheep dog trails (Amelia should like that one as well)

So if you are in and around Bendigo this weekend - check it out!

On the knitting needles here - the doll is almost finished and hope to get the finishing touches done tonight so I can blog it for you all tomorrow!

We Are Moving Again!

Ok - it is official! We are packing our bags and moving again. It only feels like I have just unpacked and we get a posting order to move again. At the end of the year we are off to Wagga Wagga.

Can you believe it - I will have to tell the sewing machine that we are moving again. The reason it has been out of action is it freaked out with moving from hot to cold - silly thing - I never thought that I had to preworn in as well!

A knitted doll update...

How quickly has the week gone? I am half way through knitting the topsey turvey doll. Just one more half of a skirt to go and then I will start stitching her together and then only the accessories to go - Oh and her arms!

Looks like a bit of a mess doesn't it with all of those ends to be weaved in!

In the mail today came this little package. Morag and I are doing a smock pattern swap. As with the rest of the sewing world we are a little hooked on Smocks at the moment. Check out
Ingrids - they are georgous! Thanks Morag - Love the material and the knitting pattern that you sent along (you rock!)

And look what we saw out our front door this afternoon. A Kangaroo and can you see those legs - yes there is a joey in there!

RUGZ 4 KIDZ - has arrived in Victoria

I am taking part in a Rugz4Kidz blanket knit. The blanket is being sent from knitter to knitter around Australia, where we each knit a 7cm length! It is then sent on to the next on the list. By this time next year it will be a loved treasure for a little girl (after being donated to a charity)

Keep an eye on its growth here. Off to chose some wool, it seems to be becoming a very pink and purple blanket. Thanks also to Leonie for the block of chocolate she added in for me to enjoy while I knit my 7cm's.

Choc Chip and Rice Bubble Biscuits

Just thought that I would pop a picture and the recipe in here for the biscuits that I made the other night (and Amelia and I just made another batch off - cause we ate them all!)

Chocolate Chip Rice Bubble Biscuits

You’ll need :
125gms butter or margarine,
½ cup castor sugar,
1 cup self raising flour,
1 egg,
½ cup dark chocolate chips &
1 cup rice bubbles.

Method : Beat the castor sugar and margarine until smooth then add the egg and flour and mix well. Finally add the choc chips and rice bubbles and mix in.

Scoop up a teaspoon full of mixture and place on a baking tray, flattening with a fork slightly.

Bake in a moderate oven for 15 minutes only. If they don’t quite look done, don’t panic they will firm up a little whilst cooling.

Oh - and I was talking on the phone the other night and made them with plain instead of SR flour - They still taste good though - one to remember if you run out of SRflour and dont have any bicarb!
