Kaitlyn's 6th Grade Orchestra Concert
Kaitlyn had her 6th grade orchestra concert tonight. It was a great concert and it is amazing to see how far these students come when many of them started learning the instruments this year in school. Kaitlyn was also recognized for participating in the 6th grade honor's orchestra that happened April 30th where she played with 6 schools.

6th Grade Awards Night
Tonight we attended the 6th grade awards ceremony. We are very proud of Kaitlyn's acheivements again this year. She has transitioned to her new school with over 700 6th graders very well. She received awards tonight for excellence in Latin, for all A's in all classes, and for participating in the Duke TIP program. She also received a special award called the "Top Dog" award. Each teacher selected one student that represented excellence in all areas including leadership, academics, service and citizenship. We were very proud that she was nominated by her Social Studies teacher, Mr. Banas. You're a great kid Kaitlyn!

6th Grade Honors Orchestra
Kaitlyn was invited to be in a 6th grade honors orchestra consisting of 6 local schools. She was given music to practice and she met with those at her school twice. Then the day of the concert she went for an all day rehearsal with the other schools. She enjoyed the experience and said she felt like she was meant to play the violin.
This picture shows about 1/2 of the 240 student orchestra.

Art Night
Hyrum and Amy were featured in an art show at their elementary school. This was actually a fundraiser in which each child had created a piece of art for the show and then they were on display for purchase. You could consider this an excellent fundraiser that is somewhat manipulative -- how do you not buy your child's art? We decided to support Hyrum and Amy and their school. They were both very proud of their creations!
High School Concert
Leah's high school orchestra program is divided into several levels: concert, symphonic, philharmonic, advanced philharmonic, chamber, advanced chamber. Leah has been playing in the advanced philharmonic this year. We recently attended the end of year concert for all of the levels which made for an almost 3 hour concert! Leah played in three numbers, one of them with the chamber orchestra, and two with the chamber and philharmonic orchestras.
Next year she was asked to join the advanced chamber. She's very nervous but will undoubtedly enjoy the experience.
The last piece was an entire symphony, Simple Symphony. It was 19 minutes long, so we had to post it here in the various shorter movements.
