(by Cory)
Sophie has a history of being interested in weird and random objects. She's obsessed with lids. Any lids. Lids to markers, chapstick, bottles, toy teapots, etc. She has two Leap Frog DVDs that hasn't watched - she just likes holding the cases. For a while, she needed about 7 different objects to go to sleep at night - including a toy Diego, an Aerobie (that she calls a Frisbee), a Rubik's cube, little dot stickers, a circular purple puzzle piece, and other objects. She just takes a shine to something, and doesn't let it go. Observe her latest interest:
She became interested, I guess, when we bought an avocado once a week, every week, for about a month (to make some scrumptious guacamole!). I thought it was just hilarious how she said it (ah-ah-ba-ta-ta-no), and she just fell in love with the "alligator pear". She even wanted to take it on the toilet with her when she sits on the potty.
She also likes Rubik's cubes. She calls the 3x3 "Sophie's cube" and the 4x4 "Daddy's cube". She likes to mess them up and make a big stink about how messed up they are, saying "Oh no! Daddy's cube is all messed up!".
(She's looks awfully glum, but she's not - she's got Daddy's cube and her avocado - what more could she want?)

Baby's room makeover and Sophie pics
Finally! It was a long process, a little at a time, but the baby's room is complete! Clothes and blankets are washed, bedding is set up, closet is full of diapers and wipes. Here is the finished product:

A close up of the "specimen art" my crafty self (note: sarcasm) made for the walls.

If you want to see the *before pictures*, click here for an older blog post.
In other news, ever since we came home from Canada, Sophie has morphed into this other child that apparently never needs sleep anymore. She refuses to sleep in her own bed and doesn't want to nap anymore, and comes into our room every night. EVERY NIGHT. We haven't had a solid nights sleep in weeks! I hope it's just a phase, but it doesn't help that she is sick and produces the most snot I think a human has ever produced in a lifetime, which causes postnasal drip and a nasty cough at night that keeps her awake. She is miserable at night. Not to mention she's much more sassy these days and says NO to everything. It's her natural reaction to anything we say! I'm sure this is not news to you folks who have had a toddler.
Now that she refuses to take a real nap she falls asleep in random places at like 5pm and then is too awake to go to bed at a decent hour. Maybe she is preparing us for the sleep deprivation that is coming with this baby. Which, by the way is coming in like 6-7 weeks!

Here is a 32 week belly picture.

Just some other cute pics of Sophie.

Journey to the North
My mom and dad are moving and needed help getting a bunch of stuff out of the basement. My brothers both had Spring Break this month and had some time off, so they both decided to travel to our homeland to help sort through some old crap and help organize all the STUFF.
Even though I am 8 months pregnant and would be absolutely no help whatsoever, our family decided to make a trip of it and go north to visit my old stomping grounds and my family! We knew we wouldn't be traveling for a while after this baby is born so we thought it'd be a good time to see everyone.
Because flight prices are astronomical, and it just so happens my passport expired in February and is currently being renewed, we really didn't have another choice but to drive. It's about 14 hours. With a toddler. With an 8 month pregnant (and complaining) woman. Cory had a lot of fun. Actually, other than the fact that it rained the ENTIRE day we drove, it wasn't bad.
We got to see my mom and dad, my brothers and their first born sons, my aunts and uncles on both my dad and mom's side, and a cousin. Not bad for a 3 day trip! It was nice to see my old high school and house where we grew up and of course, I ate poutine every day that I could. For those who don't know what poutine is, I will leave it to you to research, and hopefully, eventually, after you get over your shock (ew! that sounds gross!) to try it for yourself, because, people, it is heaven. Delicious, artery-clogging heaven. In Canada it is sold in almost every popular fast food restaurant.
We all went bowling one day and I forgot to warn Cory about the freaky-deaky bowling methods they have in Canada...5-pin bowling uses, yep, you guessed it, 5 pins and a ball a little bigger than a softball. I had forgotten about that! I guess living in the States for 12+ years will do that to ya.
It was a nice trip, other than Sophie not sleeping pretty much AT ALL the whole trip, and getting a fever. But I'm so glad we went! The drive back was much more pleasant, and we stayed overnight in a hotel with a whirlpool right in the room. It was sweet. We have more pictures of the trip but they are on Cory's ipod so they haven't been uploaded yet.
Now back to regular life and getting ready for this baby! Only 7-8 weeks left! Yikes!
