I guess I've abandoned this blog for quite some time now. But this blog has markings of the different seasons I went through in the past and it is a place where I write down things that I've been convicted about and that I feel will be a blessing to others as they read them, apart from that it is my personal sanctuary and diary of rants and what nots when I need to.
January 2014 marks the beginning of a new year. More than that a new season that I've been entering into. I'm transitioning into adulthood as I've been writing about lately.
God is really dealing with the core of my character, the moulding and sharpening of my weaknesses. Running a law firm albeit not on your own but being a partner with only a year over experience can be daunting sometimes. But I find it a challenge, an honour that I would have such an opportunity, and I know God already promised me that He will send people to help me along the way - and He certainly did.
I get lost sometimes in just the everyday day to day work. But God has been gracious in reminding me of what's important and the focus for this year.
Execution is key. Putting down the dreams and vision God gave us (my dad and I) for this firm into black and white and later executing it is vital for the Firm to move in the direction God wants to take us. I'm learning to take one step at a time but at times I can be very impatient asking whether I am too slow in doing the thing I need to do or that things need to be moving faster than it should be now.
Prayer is key. I know and admit that I've not been praying very much for the firm and I'm learning to take ownership still of the things God has placed in my hands.
Renewal is key. That in our walk, there will be times when we grow cold or dry and we need to be renewed in the mind, spirit and body. To not neglect that alone time with God, to make it a point to sit at His feet, to make time, to not get distracted.
To walk by faith and not by sight.
To live in the present, don't worry about the future, keep dreaming and dream big, keep focus.
To not only know the acts of God but know His ways also.
To not let my heart be hardened.
To be reminded that Jesus is the centre of all things; my life.

Resilience
Character building season.
I need to remember the little things. It is the little things that will build my character. If I have dealt with my little things, then I will not easily be shaken.
I need to remember the little things. It is the little things that will build my character. If I have dealt with my little things, then I will not easily be shaken.
Take ownership of the things God has place in front of me.
No fear of making mistakes, perhaps this is the price I am to pay, pay it now, price is still
cheap.
Be resilient. Take the initiave to do the ground work, the research and present things in a platter to Dad.
Time to start work.

The process of planting wheat and harvesting
So looking back at my blog posts on harvest, this year indeed is a year of harvest. The vision I had 2 years ago concerning me picking up the small bags of goodies lined up for me and at the end picking up my big special parcel has come to past. And I'm so amazed at how God works.
I've always read about seasons and know that there is a season for everything. And everything is a process. Like planting wheat.
1. First you plough the land.
2. Then you sow the seed.
3. Then you water and nurture it.
4. While waiting for it to grow, you've got to take care of it, less insecticides comes along and destroy your crops.
5. Then when it is ready you harvest it.
So what's next after you've harvest it? You repeat process 1 again. You work to sow for the next harvest. Nothing comes easy in life. I saw a vision of a grinding equipment and a person working hard to spin the handle to grind the wheat into fine flour. It takes work, hard work. And the Lord has shown me that I'm in the last process: the grinding of the harvested wheat into fine flour, and it means working on it.
"After harvesting, the process of separating any chaff prepares the end product for grinding into flour or other applications." http://www.wisegeek.org/how-is-wheat-grown-and-harvested.htm
I've sown into my education and my career. I've now reaped an inheritance. My own law firm, my own office and a superb team as a strong foundation. God has given these harvest to me. And now to work on it grinding it into fine flour. While working on it, I start sowing again (process 1) and prepare for my next harvest.
I've sown into my relationship, I've been faithful in waiting, I've prayed, I've believed God will give me the best, one that He has prepared specially tailored for me to journey with in this life here on earth. I've now reaped that harvest. And now to work on it, grinding it into fine flour. While working on it, we start sowing again (process 1) and prepare for our next harvest.
1. Plowing. Wheat farmers prepare their fields by plowing the soil. This breaks up the surface of the soil and allows moisture to soak into the ground where it is stored for the next crop. Plowing the field also buries weeds that have grown in the damp soils. http://library.thinkquest.org/5443/whowgrown.html
Breaking of the soil reminds me of what God is doing to this firm now. We are plowing. He is breaking it up so that moisture (water - life) can soak into the ground where it is stored for the next crop. It must happen in order that we would have moisture for the next batch of crops to be planted. Plowing also buries weeds that have grown in the damp soils - i.e. weeds that will affect the next batch of crops if it is left there to grow with the seed.
2. Then once that is done, now we sow the seed. Farmers also must plant and harvest the wheat at the correct time.
We must know when to plant the seed at the correct time.
3. Water and nurture it. You care for it. Love it. Ecc 3:22 says "so I saw that there is nothing better for a man than to enjoy his work, because that is his lot. For who can bring him to see what will happen after him?" You water it with God's living water that gives life to the seed. The mustard seed sown must have life in it in order for it to grow into a big tree.
4. Protect it from diseases. While the wheat is growing, farmers must protect it from diseases, insect pests, and weeds. Rust is the most destructive wheat disease. Rust is a fungus that grows on the wheat plant and produces small, rust-colored spots on the leaves and stems. Insects damage about ten percent of the United States wheat crop every year. Grasshoppers and locusts are two of the more than one hundred insects that attack wheat plants. Weeds rob the wheat plants of the moisture and nourishment they need.
So again, I'm reminded of building the walls with one hand, and the other hand holding a weapon and looking out for those insecticides and rust that will come and destroy the crops. Rust are spread by airborne. Look out for those things that the Evil one uses to destroy your crops. Recognise it, Fight it and defend it. I will need to develop my spiritual muscles on this!
5. Lastly, there will come a season of harvest again. :)
Oh Lord, I am so thankful of the things that you have blessed me with. I am here, available to be used by you. counting the cost of building, I will do whatever it takes to fulfil what you've called me to do here on earth in my lifetime.
I've taken hold of the baton and I will run the long distance race.

Choice
Everyone is given a choice. The danger with us is that sometimes we use the excuse of God to just not do anything about it.
We are given a choice to choose God, to follow Him. We are given a choice to worship Him or not worship Him, to obey or not to obey.
We are given a choice to love someone or not to love someone. We are given a choice to be responsible about our work or just plainly leave it be. We have a choice of looking at the problem and mulling over it, or look at Jesus and rise over it.
Hey the Lord spoke through 1 Timothy 4:9-16
This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance (and for this we labor and strive). that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe.
Command and teach these things. Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to public reading of Scripture, to preaching and teaching. Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you.
Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
And so what is hope?
Hope is something good when there appears to be none. I hope for something. There is hope in the darkness. Instead of what do I hope, what is God's hope?
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
The Israelites were brought to a land of exile. They went into cities which didn't quite belong to them. They were not in control. But God said pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper. God said there will come a time when His promises for them will be fulfilled. He will bring them back to Jerusalem. God knows He is in control.
Likewise, yes I'm working in a place where I don't have control over things, it is not yet my firm. But here I am to be for the moment for the season, and I shall pray for it, because if it prospers, I too will prosper.
Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young. David fought Goliath when he was just a boy. He was given responsibility beyond his years of age and experience. So if I am given that as well in work, and if God has allowed these responsibilities to come my way, I can do it, not with my own strength but with God's aid I can.
Set an example for the believers in speech.....to learn to hold my tongue, speak only what is encouraging and building.
in life - in what I do, in my spiritual walk, in my mandate. It is so important as your mission must cradle upon your mandate, behavior
in love - this is agape love - selfless, sacrificial, unconditional love
in faith - Hebrews 11:1 faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see. What do we hope? we hope in God, and what is hope in God? see the above.
in purity - keeping ourselves holy and consecrated unto Him. Holiness is THE characteristic of God.
Do not neglect your gift - parable of the minas, what God has given to you, use it do not neglect it for if you do, it may be taken away from you.
Be diligent - say no to laziness!
Persevere - God never said it is going to be easy, but persevere in them...persevere.

learnings
Key learnings today:
1. Give some thought to your work. Two scenarios
Should hv known that client would nt want to reveal the party we are suing before we sue.
2. I don't proof read my work - from now on no quality work don't hand up.
3. Think from the client's perspective, what would the clients want n expect from us. Tricky bit cz this is from experience.
4. Learn to be more detailed
5. Pauses are good on betweens n talk to God.
6. Improve on drafting skills, learn to use more apt words n adjectives to accurately describe what you want to say.
7. God loves me. I am favoured :)

Fear Not
Oh the Lord is good. Words of encouragement just poured in when I needed them and the Lord never fails to provide and assure me when I needed assurance.
Sister Thuan Lin from cg shared yesterday, and she released a word that she felt the Lord was saying to me. It was "YOU WILL MAKE IT!" Immediately I grabbed hold of that word, received it and said Amen!
Smitha shared a word that she felt was for the group. It was" forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead." from Philippians 3:13.
And then the verse from Isaiah 41:8-10; 13-14
But you, O Israel, my servant,
Jacob, whom I have chosen,
you descendants of Abraham my friend,
I took you from the ends of the earth,
from the farthest corners I called you.
I said, 'You are my servant.';
I have chosen you and have not rejected you.
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do nor be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
For I am the Lord, your God,
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you.
Do not be afraid, O worm Jacob,
O little Israel,
for I myself will help you," declares the Lord,
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
Oh yes, the Lord himself will help me. I do not need to strive in all things I do. It sums up everything again. God you are so good. And in You I can trust that all things will work out, I will make it! :D

Peace, steadfast, trust and Rock
Thus sayeth the Lord
You will keep in perfect peace
those whose minds are steadfast.
because they trust in you.
Trust in the LORD forever,
for the LORD, the LORD himself, is the Rock eternal.
Isaiah 26:3-4
Simple verse yet it spoke so much to me. Four things the Lord showed me.
1. Peace
Not only I will have peace, I will keep in perfect peace. I will stay and have perfect peace if..
2. Steadfast
My mind is steadfast - fixed, unchanging, unswerving, steady, loyal, constant
Fixed on the truth, on His promises, on His word, on His plans, on His timing, on His glory, on His face.
Why so steadfast, how can it be steadfast?
3. Trust
Because I trust in my God, who made all things new, all things on earth, He spoke and there was life. My Father who wants what's best for me, who knows the timings and seasons. Who knows the whole chapter of my life, because He is the author of my life, He who created me.
4. Rock
He himself is the Rock eternal. Remembering that I am to build the foundation of my life on the Rock eternal. No one or nothing else will do.
He will establish my life, my career, my calling, my relationship, my all. Lord I surrender all to You. I want to see your beautifully crafted work in my life. No striving, just trusting.

Positioning!
I just need to position myself...and see the Lord put things into place for me.
Just like how the Lord delivered the enemies into the hands of the Israelites, they just positioned themselves and the Lord fought the battle for them.
The Lord fights the battle for us, but we take the plunder.
So I'm positioning myself and watch the hand of the Lord at work.

Fearfully and wonderfully made
I was really getting darts from the enemy.
Saying all sorts of negative things. I can't, I shouldn't be used, I can't even learn from my mistakes, how many times you want to make the same mistake, you are a disgrace, you don't learn, lazy careless clumsy, not being a good example, you are not the best, you this you that, you are so lousy in all sorts of areas, you are of no quality, you are bad at research .... and the list goes on.
And I say LORD, I know these are lies, help me defend and attack at the same time, give me scripture!
And true enough, Psalm 13
1 O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.
5 You hem me in--behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,"
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still
with you.
19 If only you would slay the wicked, O God! Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!
20 They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name.
21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD, and abhor those who rise up against you?
22 I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies.
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
God you are great and I am secure in YOU. Thank you for standing up for me. Thank you for the authority given to trample on the enemy. Thank you for confidence in you. Though I am not perfect in all my ways, yet you chose me. I am forever grateful. Now I ask for your grace, your empowerment, to do things beyond my ability.
To You be all the glory!
Amen.

Amen.

Could it be different?
Everyone says, this is chambering life:
1. late nights are inevitable
2. your social life will soon deplete...slowly
3. it's not going to get any better, but you just need to get use to it
4. work may require you to come in even on weekends, if datelines are set, if you have to work you have to work.
5. this is how it is if you want to do litigation...
This is how it is....
really?
Could it be different?
I think I have a lot to learn....so much to learn. Lord teach me these Your principles and how to apply in this new context as I go along now. This new phase this new season, there will be different kinds of challenges, but I know I won't face it alone, I don't want to, I don't have to.
It's only the 2nd month of chambering....7 more months to go and a lifetime of practising as a lawyer.

Replug into the main source: Jesus!
Did I just say yes to being available this Sunday (standby) to come in into office if needed?
Well I told her if need be, I can only come in after 12 because I got church. "Everything needs to be finalised by this weekend because we are rushing things off to be sent overseas," she says. Yes I do recognise the urgency.....
BUT I SAID YES! IN THE PRESSURE AND HEAT OF THINGS, THE INTENSE MOMENT WHEN MY 2 OTHER COLLEUGES ARE AVAILABLE TO COME IN ON SUNDAYS AND I DIDN'T WANNA LOOK BAD IN FRONT OF HER....
It's a Sabbath for goodness sake Esther. I can't believe what I agreed to. Is it wrong? Now I am not blaming anyone, I am blaming myself, the lack of discipline in my quiet time is really making me feel I'm drawing more and more away from the source. I need to get connected again.
It is true that we need to give our best in our work, but if we plug in only to work and only work, work will eventually be the source of our life.
Gosh this is all harder than I thought it would be.
Don't lose yourself. Don't lose your commitment. Don't lose God.
I really need to establish the one hour timeframe of "God time" soon.
Suddenly the reality of the working world seem so scary. You get sucked into it so easily if you are not careful, and you may not even realise it....until it's too late. But thank goodness, it's never too late with Jesus. Keep watch, I sense some tugging from the Holy Spirit already. I need to deal with this.
Jesus, come.

Ramblings at 12pm
Hello earthlings.
Sorry I have been MIA-ing the past few days. Haven't really had time nor inspiration to blog.
Sitting at work now with nothing left to do, well actually there are a lot more things to do but the person in charge is busy today so we have to wait for her instructions.
Nothing like Monday blues. But having a room that oversees midvalley and the highways helps, well kinda.
And plugging in to William Fitzsimmons, an armish singer with a long beard :)
I hope my day becomes more fruitful. Been lagging in my quiet time lately. Feeling the distance :(
Anyways will not end my post with something sad. I want to thank God for today. :) I like my workplace, I like my job, I like my collegues :D. Thank you Jesus.
You know just what I need.
I may not even know what I like, or what I want, but You do. Some people don't even know/think they need salvation, but You know all of us do, and You went ahead years ago to do that. :)
Grateful.

Grace = Empowerment
I am nothing without You.
Grace is not just a free gift, it is an empowerment to do the things which are beyond our ability!
Daniel was 10 times smarter than the greatest teachers in Babylon. He distinguished himself. God's favour and grace was upon him. Daniel 6:3
Acts 6:8 Stephen had great grace to perform great miracles
Luke 2:40 The grace of God was upon Jesus. Even Jesus who did not sin had the grace of God upon his ministry.
Dear Lord I pray I'd start each day of my work with Your grace! Not using my own ability and knowledge that I know or the potential that I know I have. I count it all as rubbish.
I need your grace, I need your empowerment to distinguish myself in my workplace, to be excellent, not for my own glory, but Yours.
If it is based on my own ability, God would have to share the glory with us, but we are always called to do something beyond our ability, so that God gets all the glory!
Being humble is the beginning of things great.

Testimony of God's goodness
Seek ye first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be give to you as well.
Matthew 6:33
And yes it is true indeed. Okay the human me was worried after being rejected the first time by a big gun firm like Shearn. I had an interview lined up with Lee Hishammuddin on Thursday. Lee H is my top choice among all the firms. I only got to know about Rahmat Lim from my law friend after I've sent in all my applications (on the day I got rejected by Shearn).
So I went for LeeH's interview on Thursday, and they said they would get back to me on Friday. The interview went well, but I didn't receive a call from them the next day. I was anxious, but my Dad with his cool voice said, "My discernment tells me they will want to take you in." (And yea I do not doubt my dad's discernment, ok...maybe I did a little...but he is always right in the end.) And some lectures from the others to trust God.
My interview with Rahmat got postponed from Thursday to Friday morning. If Lee H were to call me on Thursday, I would have said yes straight away. But they only emailed me on Friday morning before my second interview.
Went for the interview, the longest among all the other interviews I've been to. I was given a case study to prepare for 30 mins; this really felt like a proper interview. The partner Pauline really spent time explaining in length to me the firm's vision and how they do things, which I'm very impressed. it's all I've ever wanted for these reasons:
1. Among the higher paying salaries in the market
2. I get to work under a very experienced IP lawyer (graduated from LSE, previously was in Shearn and ZeeCo before she moved here)
3. There is a good chance to expand my practice if I want to in the future to Singapore because they are very closely linked with Allen & Gledhill Singapore
4. They give really good perks
5. New offices, very new, with rooms that have glass windows facing the city! (Just like in the movies!)
6. I was allowed to take 5 days leave in January to attend the prayer in Kluang! (this is very rare for chambering students to be allowed to even take leave, what more 5 days!)
7. They are very flexible, friendly and all out to expose their chambering students to real life stuff (yes we are allowed to make mistakes at the expense of the firm..but nt too much of course)
8. A firm that moves with time, brings the best practices from all the other firms out there and discards the bad.
9. After just 2 - 3 years of their opening, they are now expanding to another floor.
10. If I get retained...I get a blackberry!
What more could I ask for? If this is not God I don't know what else it is. Even when I wore the wrong pants for the interview (yes it was a tad bit too loose and I wasn't feeling too confident in that pants).
Say Amen with me! :D
I'm starting work next month. Will do my best in the battlefield God has put me in :)

Give your best, Aim high
Rejections are painful!
I just hope those would be signs of close doors. In the meantime, I got to up my preparations. No more lackadaisical job, Esther you need to be motivated again to do your best in everything.
Even in simple job applications, do not take it for granted.
Yes, I am giving myself the pep talk that I much need.
Dear Lord help me!

suitcases
I've been living out of the suitcase for the past 2 months or so.
Sometimes I wonder can I just continue living out of the suitcase (because I'm a bit lazy to unload and unpack). Haha well the obvious answer is No.
Time to clear up the old stuff in my cupboard to make room for the new. It was easier moving into a new house, where you get an empty room, cupboards and drawers; you just unload. Now you have to clear the space first, that's what's taking me so long.
Can't believe I'm home still, everything else seems normal now, gradually....
Thank You Jesus.
And this week it's job application time and the start of my journey in getting my driving license.
Suitcases reminds me of Gabe's song and so on my playlist atm is his song: Suitcases.
Quite an emo song haha.
Till I scribble here again....
