Silly owl

A big water main broke in Dekalb County yesterday evening, and I didn't find out until a friend called this morning. I'd drunk water already, of course. The Atlanta paper was saying to boil water for 30 minutes (all you need during a heat wave is boiling water for a half hour in an already to hot house), but the CDC says only a minute is needed. For a couple of days, sez they. Bah.

Oh, yeah, they say you can make coffee and cook, since that is hot long enough, but if you wash dishes they should be completely dry, but isn't the dishwashing machine hotter than my coffee pot? So, anyway, here I am with some leftover bottled water, and 2 pots of boiled water, and the dishwasher standing open to air dry.

I washed a pear off as usual, and had it to my mouth and then remembered. Had to pour hot water from the stove over it. *grumble* I like to get a tall glass of water all through the day and drink.

I'd make a rotten third world traveler -- I'm too absent minded about health restrictions.

Oh, yeah, and they're installing new siding on our buildings, and the information letter said that my building would be last, so I figured that if they started on August 1st, I'd have three months or thereabouts to get the plants in and clear things off the patio. Not so! I came home from work yesterday to find to letters on my door saying they were starting hereon Tuesday! We've become first, somehow. And, oh, by the way, take everything of the walls so they aren't shaken off.

I'd finally just gotten the place looking like I plan to stay. Pfui, to quote Nero Wolfe.

ETA: All invites gone for now.

And now for my annual indulgence.

I think my very favorite musical ever is 1776, and I love the way John and Abigail Adams are with each other. And what other musical had a song removed on orders of the President ? Nixon had them cut out the song "Cool, Considerate Men" before the film was released. The whole show has so much to tell us now, including Benjamin Franklin's:
Those who would give up some of their liberty in order to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

And John Dickinson, who said:
"Don't forget that most men with nothing would rather protect the possibility of becoming rich than face the reality of being poor. "
