Logos[]
1st Logo (September 2, 1992-September 26, 1995)[]
Set against the Barney & Friends season one background, (a white screen with multicolored sparkles framing the edges), "Barney" written in yellow text zooms into the center of the screen, then tilts forward slightly as it moves to the top. A blue square fades in below, along with the sparkling words "HOME VIDEO". Inside the square is a cartoon version of Barney shown from the chest up, with his green belly visible and one hand raised. He winks with a shine effect, similar to how the Barney doll winks during the end of the theme song and the end of episodes, and the screen fades to black.
Initially it played silent, but starting in 1994 on Let's Pretend with Barney (the first Barney Home Video to be released in 1994) it now has its own music: A deep note (played on arco basses) accompanied by a short xylophone ditty (that overlaps the normal pitch with the low pitch), and then a short synthesized orchestral rendition (with a seven-note melody that interpolates the theme song for both Barney & The Backyard Gang and Barney & Friends) of the series' theme song accompanied by a flute and strings, ending in a four-note ascending flourish. This tune, composed by Bob Singleton (who also did the music for the first three seasons of Barney & Friends), was produced on an E-MU Proteus/2 Orchestral sound module with the shakuhachi being taken from the E-MU Emax II.
This logo was created using 2D animation, likely using an Ampex ADO (Ampex Digital Optics), a piece of high-end video effects hardware used during the late '80s and early '90s for real-time video transformations like zooming, spinning, tilting, and perspective warping.
This logo first appeared on the 1992 VHS Barney's Birthday, though some prints of that tape replaced it with CPT or CPB logos. It was used on early Barney home videos through the 1995 VHS of Riding In Barney's Car (also known as "Are We There Yet?"). It also appears on some 1990s prints of Barney in Concert. The trailer variant was mostly seen on promo VHS tapes and trailers included on other Barney releases from the same period. Despite being phased out by September 1995, a few reissues may still feature this logo due to stock footage or recycled openings. As of 2026, the showing-up of this logo on Love To Read, With Barney is disputed.
Variants[]
- On post-27 January 1993 prints of Barney's Magical Musical Adventure, the home video logo replaces the original Barney & Friends silhouette during the opening sequence which however retains the opening theme of the series.
- There is a special variant seen on trailers of some Barney Home Videos in which "Also Available From" (in white) on a blue star fades in on the top-corner of the screen.
- On the Latin American Spanish dubs of Barney Live! In New York City (Barney en Vivo en Nueva York), and Imagination Island, Blas García (the announcer for the Latin American Spanish dub of Barney & Friends) is heard saying "Barney y Sus Amigos".
2nd Logo (November 7, 1995–January 24, 2017)[]
The screen starts with a flat yellow background, which suddenly reveals itself as a CGI star spinning away from the viewer and onto a blue Magna Doodle-like tube held by a cartoon version of Barney, who stands on a black background. As the star locks into place, a huge confetti flash occurs and the blue word "Barney" — now in a 3D-stylized version of the corporate logo font — appears in front of the tube and flies up to the top of the screen. Then, the glowing text "HOME VIDEO" zooms in letter-by-letter below it, each letter chased by a light. Like in the previous logo, Barney's eye shines once, and the screen fades to black.
This logo was created around October 1995 using CGI animation by Intelligent Light Digital Imaging, animated by Tom Rennen with LightWave 3D software. The music remains the same as the previous logo; but on some prints of Barney's Talent Show, the music is in a low tone (-1.5 semitones lower).
Variants[]
- On the Barney Songs screener, a prototype version exists in which the star turns a bit differently, the flash that occurs when the star goes into its position is dim and Barney doesn't wink.
- From 1996 to 2000, there existed a special variant on Barney tapes part of the "Classic Collection" (such as the 1996 re-prints of the Barney and the Backyard Gang videos) in which the text "CLASSIC COLLECTION" fades in below "HOME VIDEO". The glow is gold here.
- A promo variant has the star animation playing in reverse at the end.
- On Barney's Stu-u-u-upendous Puzzle Fun!, the opening silhouette replaced the then-current home video logo in the opening sequence (in a manner similar to Barney's Magical Musical Adventure, but likewise retaining the opening theme of the series instead of playing the audio from the said Barney Home Video logo) and it fades into the opening shot of Barney coming to life and greeting the kids.

Trivia[]
- Many Spanish language videos that were released in the US at the same time as the original English language release came packaged in the English language box, but it has a yellow sticker that says "Doblada" on the front to indicate that it is the Spanish dubbed version, and the tape label says "Spanish Version" (1995-1998 tapes) or "En Español" (1999-2000 tapes)
