Rovers V Basle - BBC Preview

Blackburn's Australian international Brett Emerton has been ruled out of the Uefa Cup match against Basle because of a hamstring strain.

Morten Gamst Pedersen (ankle) and Shabani Nondo (shin) are both doubtful through injury.

Robbie Savage, who was banned for the defeat by West Ham, could return after suffering fluid on the knee.

Striker Jason Roberts will be sidelined for at least three months after breaking a bone in his foot.

Blackburn manager Mark Hughes
"If we can win our home games it will put us in great shape in the group.

"If we can force the issue and have a good tempo against Basle that will help us. But we know this is a difficult fixture.

"Basle are a decent side with a good European pedigree. We have to respect their qualities."

Blackburn (from): Friedel, Brown, Enckelman, Neill, Khizanishvilli, Oojer, Todd, Gray, McEveley, Bentley, Tugay, Mokoena, Savage, Peter, Pedersen, Nonda, McCarthy, Jeffers, Gallagher.

West Ham 2 - Rovers 1

Full match report and goals to follow

We're making a habit of losing. 2-0 down until the last minutes of the game. I watched it on ESPN (sorry for not posting a schedule!) but to be honest it was a pretty dull game.

3 on the trot now.

West Ham V Rovers - BBC Preview

Upton Park
Sunday, 29 October
Kick-off: 1600 GMT

West Ham (from): Carroll, Green, Walker, Gabbidon, Ferdinand, Konchesky, Spector, Dailly, Pantsil, Mears, McCartney, Benayoun, Mullins, Mascherano, Reo-Coker, Sheringham, Cole, Harewood, Zamora.

Blackburn (from): Friedel, Neill, Khizanishvili, Tugay, Emerton, Savage, Bentley, Nonda, McCarthy, Pedersen, Mokoena, Jeffers, Gallagher, Ooijer, Brown, Gray, Peter, McEveley, Roberts.

BLACKBURN ROVERS head for East London eager to pile more misery on Alan Pardew's beleaguered side. But they're not without their own problems. Two missed penalties in a 0-1 home loss to Bolton last Saturday, followed by a 0-2 home defeat to Chelsea in the Carling Cup on Wednesday, means Mark Hughes' team need something from this trip to get their season back on track.

Rovers have not suffered back-to-back defeats in 12 Premiership outings, since losing to Liverpool (h) and Birmingham (a) on 16 and 19 April respectively.

Rovers' only maximum at Upton Park in this League was 1-2 on 27 April 1994, when Henning Berg and Ian Pearce were on target.

Going into the weekend: 10th 12 points
(all statistics are ahead of this weekend's round of Premiership fixtures)

1. Last Sunday's home loss to Bolton ended an eight-game undefeated spell in League and Cup.

2. Won five of eight in all competitions.

3. Lost the lead three times in Premiership matches, but dropped only four points from winning positions (drawing home to Everton and away to Liverpool).

4. Seeking a sixth away game in League and Cup without defeat.

5. Won two and drawn three on the road in the Premiership and Uefa Cup since their sole defeat away from Ewood Park (3-0 at Portsmouth on the opening day, 19 August).

6. Still own the dubious distinction of the least well-behaved side in the highest League with 24 cards shown (one red, 23 yellow), even excluding Andy Todd's dismissal at Portsmouth, which was rescinded.

7. A home fixture with Basle in Group E of the Uefa Cup follows this on Thursday, before a trip to Aston Villa in the Premiership and a home match with Manchester United.

8. Holding the worst penalty-taking record in the Premiership so far this season - failing to convert all three awarded. Also, conceded more spot kicks in top flight games this term than any other club, with the exception of Bolton - both have had five awarded against them.

Rovers 0 - Chelsea 2 (Carling Cup)

Full match report and goals to follow (?)

Was this on tv at all? If it was, I couldn't find it on any of the listings...

It sounds like it was a deserved victory for chelsea despite rovers nearly taking the lead in the first half. Two goals in the second half from cole and kalou wrapped it up for the visitors.

Personally, I am not at all disappointed by this result. I would much rather see us have a good run in the UEFA cup than knacker out our squad attempting to compete in potentially four competitions. Still, two losses on the trot now :(
