Snob

Esnob

Esnob is an Anglicism derived from the word "snob" with which is denominated to a person that imitates with affectation the manners, opinions, etc. Of those whom he considers distinguished or of high social class to appear to be the same as them. Its plural is "snobs". Eager to belong to the elite, snobs tend to reproduce the behavior of a social or intellectual class that they consider superior. Many times they imitate the characteristics of this class, whether in language, tastes, fashions and lifestyles. At the same time they treat with contempt those they consider inferior. This form of social mimicry, first defined by William Makepeace Thackeray, was analyzed by sociologists like Thorstein Veblen or Norbert Elias.
