Satire

Sátira

Satire is a literary genre that expresses indignation towards someone or something, with moralizing purpose, playful or merely burlesque. It can be written in prose or verse or alternating both forms. Strictly satire is a literary genre, but it is also a resource that we find in the graphic and performing arts. In satire individual or collective vices, follies, abuses or deficiencies are manifested through ridicule, farce, irony and other methods; All designed to achieve an improvement in society. Although in principle satire is intended for fun, its main purpose is not humor in itself, but an attack on a reality that disapproves the author, using for this purpose the weapon of intelligence. It is very common, almost defining its essence, that the satire is heavily impregnated with irony and sarcasm; In addition the parody, the mockery, the exaggeration, the comparisons, the juxtapositions, the analogy and the folds are used frequently in the discourse and the satirical writing. The essential point, however, is that "in satire, irony is militant."
