Downeaster Electra
(a place that is just as real,
but not as brightly lit)

Who: My name is Ruth, but I go by electrablue online. That, or thepromisedwomb. Or, like, moesko maiden. Or, you know, amurderofprose. Whatever. I'm electrablue right now. Why electrablue? Here's why.

What: I'm an eclectic solitary witch in a coven of two, a bisexual woman with a strong heterosexual preference who manages, quite easily, to remain monogamously engaged to yet another samely-oriented bisexual woman 19 years my senior - yet we also really want a male partner for a triad someday soon - and I don't want to lose weight. Really. (Or dye out the premature gray in my hair, for that matter.) I also hate morning people and believe that Seasonal Affective Disorder is make-believe. Additionally, I like older men. No, older than that. Really. Older.

When I'm not being sanctimonious and prematurely defensive, I enjoy doing a lot of potentially unpleasant things, my indulgence in watching movies - horror, especially - being first on the list. After that it's drawing portraits and taking pictures, listening to music, occasionally reading, writing fanfiction, viewing strange videos, being depressed, and, of course, hating stuff. I also enjoy the loftier diversions of sleep, Schadenfreude, unsuccessful cat-herding, and poorly executed attempts at humor. Click here for an endless and obligatory "about me" page.

Where: I consider myself an honorary New Englander, having moved to Massachusetts in 2002 to be with my Boston-native fiancée and partner in crime of seven years, Michele. In September '06 we relocated to my rotten hometown in Missouri, where we now live with my mom and sister. We'd rather be back in New England, but at least we have each other. July 25th was our eight year anniversary.

When: Certainly not now. Some other time in history, when men actually looked like men and thirteen year old girls married them. And then got consumption.

Why: For gray weather, lighthouses, good Ring fanfic, the chance of seeing Cape Cod again, my kitties, my sweetheart, and these gentlemen.

How: I'm a well-developed, well-nourished 24 year old female and I'm fucking crazy.

Friending Policy, or Why You Won't Like Me: My LJ is friends only, but I'm sometimes agreeable to adding someone with whom I share interests or mutual friends. However, there are some things to consider first:

  • I have relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. Managing its symptoms (with daily injections - I have no needle phobia - and tons of pills) is what takes up most of my time, and I talk about this a lot in frank and/or depressing detail. If you are uncomfortable with this, or choose to be ignorant of it, I don't want to be friends.

  • I refuse to worry about upsetting people with "TMI" to the point that I censor myself, so I rarely lj-cut about those things - for example, like MS upsetting my body's functions. I certainly don't cut about my period, which a) is perfectly natural, and b) I actually enjoy having!

  • On that positive note, considering how much I think about it, I have a sex filter, but it's kept under lock and key. (And it's either "my sex drive's gone" or "my sex drive's out of control." And with the latter, I really just go on about men even more.)

  • I am fat (full-figured, voluptuous, Rubenesque, etc.) and happy about it. So I don't discuss any kind of weight loss techniques in my journal or comments. I respect everyone's right to do what they want with their body, but please don't bring that here. I'm not interested.

  • I have trouble with money. If you don't, that's nice. I'll just have to complain louder.

  • My sense of humor is an acquired taste and often confuses people, even close friends. A lot of the time you may not know if I'm joking. About anything.

That's about it. If you're somehow still interested at this point, then I may be too. I'm shy and standoffish with strangers, but more open and gentler with friends - though it would be a lie to say that I'm not as inconsistently hostile or flippant as I make myself out to be, because I'm that too. However, I'm also spineless and avoid confrontation, and will always back down from it. So if you're in the mood to tell someone how wrong she is about absolutely everything, then add away and please let me know you've added me! If at some point you want to drop me, I of all people will certainly understand. (Just know that I also might secretly have wanted to drop you, too. God, I'm a bitch.)

Always Things: The Ring (2002), "The Downeaster 'Alexa'" by Billy Joel, the color blue, gray weather, and all the other stuff up there in my "Why" section.
Current Things: The Ring again, and writing about it nonstop.
Never Things: Most men under 50, Johnny Depp for that matter, the sun, the summer, slash for the sake of slash, fandom, the naïve and easily startled, bi-phobes, fat-phobes.

Auxiliary Journal: amurderofprose, aka A Murder of Prose (gee), wryly referred to as 'Downeaster Annexa' and disarranged mostly with Ring fanfiction. This is where I am when I'm not here.

It's not, you know.
