Ellise talked about the song on American Songwriter.
For the sound, "Feeling Something Bad" is actually kind of symbolic in a way to me, because the day I made it, I felt like I had a breakthrough with how I make music. It was so different from anything I had made before, and it really pushed me to keep challenging myself throughout the making of the rest of my upcoming album.[6]

Theme[]
Song[]
‘Feeling Something Bad’ is basically about having a crush on someone where you already know it’s unattainable for whatever the reason. Honestly, this song is about a boy I barely even knew and only hung out with a couple of times. I just love dramatizing little everyday feelings in life, so this is my big dramatic I-have-a-crush-on-you song," she said, in an interview.
Ellise, Via Interview
I wrote it about having a crush on someone who was very much not good for me, and I knew that it wouldn't be good, but you know, when you have feelings for someone, you don't really care about the red flags and all of that, just wanna be with them. So its kinda like that premonition gut feeling of "this is gonna go terribly, but i feel it anyway", which is why it's like feeling something bad, because you know its gonna be bad.

Music Video[]
"-- we kinda came up with the visuals for this video by just, like what does that manifest into visually. You're on a lab table, like people are prodding at you, you feel like you aren't in control of yourself and other people are controlling your emotions. You're in a sea of faces, everything gets blurry, like you gave these feeling and they just fucking overtake your whole brain."
Lyrics[]
The song is split into two perspectives represented by the pitch of the voice. Italicized text will represent one perspective.
[Verse 1]
How can I say what I wanna say?
Never learned how to really speak my mind
Let me get a word in, I, guess my brain doesn't think I should try
Count up to ten and play it on rewind
How do I say what I'm tryna say
When I can't even look you in the eye?
[Verse 2]
This is difficult
Wanna be your pretty baby, centerfold
I don't know
I sound delusional
But, when we kissed,
You gave an inch, I took a mile
[Pre-Chorus]
And I see you while I sleep, please don't hate me
If I bring this to the light, am I crazy?
[Chorus]
Think I might be feeling something bad
Do I want it bad enough to ask?
Lately, my obsessions drive me mad
Think I might be feeling something bad
[Verse 3]
Making me sick and my stomach hurts
Grab my hand, I don't wanna let go
Sorry if my cheeks turn red
Blood is pumping, I stare at the floor
Count up to ten and now I want it more
Touch me again and my skin burns
I don't like that I like it, though
[Verse 4]
This is difficult
Let me be your little baby, have it all
Is it wrong?
I sound delusional
But when you kiss me
I envision something beautiful
[Pre-Chorus]
And I see you in my dreams, please don't hate me
If I let the words come out, I'll sound crazy
[Chorus]
Think I might be feeling something bad
Do I want it bad enough to ask?
Lately, my obsessions drive me mad
Think I might be feeling something bad
Think I might be feeling something bad
Do I want it bad enough to ask?
Lately, my obsessions drive me mad
Think I might be feeling something bad
[Outro]
How can I say what I'm tryna say
When I can't even look you in the eye?
