This is mostly for my own reference, and thus actively targets the things I'm willing to make. I started with CRAFTING FOR A CAUSE: ACE AUSTRALIAN CHARITY CRAFTING CAMPAIGNS and clicked through to anything that didn't appear to be specifically a different state, animal related (I do blankets/contribute to blankets for the Cat Haven, so I don't need another animal charity), or looking for knitted items for prem babies (because it requires tight tension, and no). If you are interested in any of those, note that several of the links have a spurious space at the end, so if you click through you have to remove the '%20' at the end for them to go through.

Sadly, the only quilt one I clicked through to turned out to be Victoria based. Thus, interested in suggestions for quilting. Not that I need another quilting project. I'm off to buy fabric for three more quilts today/tomorrow, because I worked out that Eldest turns 21 in less than a year, and if I'm going to have their 21st quilt done I'd better get started! Which means I'm putting the Block a Day project away, until further notice. Which I'm sad about, but I'll be more sad if I don't end up with a quilt for each of the kids (Queen bed sized)

Equally sadly, there weren't any local knitting/crochet options. More than one of the ones I looked at were Christian affiliated. Due to Reasons, I'm not willing to contribute to a church linked group again. I found Wrap with Love who at least have non-church groups listed -- they have "...Mission Without Borders, MongolaAid, World Vision, ADRA, Settlement Services International, Providential Homes, Sister to Sister, and Rotary.". They'll take squares, which could mean I could get rid of some. I'm conflicted here.

...given the number of tabs I had open, I really did expect to have more things to list here. So, I'm still looking for WA based groups, preferably not church affiliated, who are interested in simple knitted/crochet or quilted items.

This is kind of a whinge, and definitely exposing my middle class privilege.

Right Now, I am completely over begging letters sent by charitable organisations - there were only two letters in the mail today, one asking for money for Nepal, and the other from the Australian Conservation Foundation asking for money for something so nebulous that I didn't quite get what it was. The first one, at least I have an existing relationship with the organisation, as we have an existing tithe. The second, no idea how I got on their mailing list*.

I don't think I've ever donated money in response to such a letter. We have a handful of existing mobs that we give money to, and maybe we could be giving more, or maybe we could be responding to disasters individually, but I kind of hope that some of the money that we are already giving is in somewhat earmarked for whatever disaster is currently on the radar. Especially as the number of reasons for begging letters seems to have gone up. And maybe there are people out there who only give in response to identifiable disasters. But I think that there are many many day to day disasters, and that happens to be where our money is going - to projects that are empowering communities, that are improving access to water/improving sanitation/increasing food available to children/introducing sustainable agriculture/educating the next generation. Because these aren't newsworthy, but they are damn important.

I've now sent one email, and one contact form (that demanded Far Too Many pieces of id for just 'get me off your mailing list'). And anything else I get like this, I'll be doing the same. Except the MS society, because they just send us raffle books, and charge us for them, and we've been doing that for years. *That* is an agreed relationship.

* their letter says "... as someone who has taken action with us in the past.." Really? no idea what that might have been, but it sure as hell wasn't an invitation to keep sending me letters.
