Rather than focus on getting the bedroom tidy, bar the pile of 'that needs more time' along the wall, I've moved my morning tidying habit to start addressing that pile along the wall. Yesterday, I repaired one of the bras on the pile, where the underwire had come out completely. Some issues, as I couldn't find the exit hole, but in the end, got it between two stitches.

This morning, up a little earlier (still getting up between six and seven, as have not adjusted back), and have done several small things. To whit, stitched in the underwire at the centre on two bras (now all bras are back in circulation!), sewn in ends (and tidied up the last stitch) on one crochet hexagon, and crocheted the border (and sewn in all the ends) on another. So, of the three sets of seven hexs waiting to be sewn together: one has three completely ready for sewing - the other four need borders; the next has three sewn together but the other four need borders; and the last has all the borders crocheted but none of the ends sewn in. All in all, no more than two hours, I'm guessing, if I was the type to sit down and just focus on getting them done.....

Still in the pile
  • 2 pair work trousers in need of hems
  • three books to be manually entered in to library thing
  • a pile of Terry Dowling collections to go through to work out which stories I have, and thus which of the available collections have stories I want (I didn't get the collection that was something like 'Intimate knowledge of Dark', and some of those stories are printed elsewhere)
  • 2 thermal undershirts in need of darning
  • more crochet hexagons
  • assorted 'small' things

Having commented in the previous post on the screen time list, it reads (poor grammar and all):

There will be no screen time until:
  • All kids floors are clear
  • All kids beds are made
  • The lounge is tidy
  • Music practice is done
  • Games room is tidy
  • Exercise has been done
  • Stretches have been done (10 minutes ≥3 muscle groups)
  • At least three household tasks are done
  • Washing is 'up-to-date'
  • Washed, dressed, fed
  • All water buckets are outside or empty
  • Homework and study are done.
Which seems like less work than 2 solid hours of housework, and still having to do music and probably exercise (youngest is doing swimming each day, so that is sorted for zer.)

We've trialled an number of ways of not letting school holidays devolve into times of sloth and chaos creation, here in the House of Mouse*. The one that I *thought* we were using was also the term one - a list of things that have to be done each day before requests of screen time will be accepted (and requests prior to this result in a ban to the end of the day, at least in theory). And then this morning middlest indicated that in fact zie would prefer a previous method, which is that they do a total of two hours work in a day, and as long as they are keeping up with having done fifteen minutes every hour from nine am to when ever they are done, no grumping about being slack will happen. Which means that they can do fifteen minutes of work and then read for the rest of the hour, with impunity.

(and now with bonus cut...) )
