On growing children
Mar. 6th, 2014 11:27 pm Watching youngest skate today, i was surprised by how lean zie has got, and reflected that toward the end of last year i had noted that zie was gaining a bit of padding. Well, I thought, skating four or five days a week, probably doing a lot for abdominal muscle strength - not that much of a stretch that zer shape has changed.
And then i get the bright idea to measure zer on the linen cupboard door - that which is the family growth record for the last ten-ish years.
Last measurement mid december. Not quite three months ago. Height change on the order of an inch - so close to a cm per month. Huh.
Closest measurement down is no more than half a cm - eldest, aged 11.2. Youngest is exactly a month shy of ten. Yes, i know about boys and girls growing differently, and the chance that zie will stop growing early-ish, but I'm seeing a distinct possibility that zie will be markedly taller than I am.
Looking through the baby book, zer height at 2 years is an exact 90cm. No 18 month measurement, but extrapolating based on the centiles Recorded gives about 83cm. On the doubling the height rule, this gives an estimate of between 166 and 180cm. I'm betting on the former, and is a good ten cm taller than I.
Numbers. Fun for the whole family. Now to remember to tell zer about it when I'm not the only awake one in the house.
