one - craft for the win! -  Not one but two - count like a roadie one, two, two, two! - craft projects have been progressed today. I shifted a section of a crochet quilt on to an old towelling nappy, pinning each 8 cm square so that it couldn't move, thus converting it to a 'quiet at home time' project to a carrying with me project, and I've sewn all of the seams in one day. While this was an unusual day in terms of opportunity, I'm still very very pleased with myself. I also made the quilt back for the quilt top I finished a little while ago, only slightly after the birth of the child-who-is-recipient. There were traumas, including discovering that one of the fabrics is not cotton by dint of melting a section to the iron (iron mostly okay, section solved by cutting it off and deciding to have narrower edging, and realising that it had been sewn with the calico inside out, defined only by the visible pencil lines. Top and bottom have now gone through a 'hand wash' load in the washing machine, and I'll have a look in the morning.

two - kinderpendence! - Arrived at a 40th birthday picnic at the base of the DNA tower only a smidge late, fed kids, and then sent them off exploring while the adults chatted in a desultory manner (kids were too eager to be involved in said conversation, and I"m hoping that all of the more adult content was when they weren't around). Instructions the first time around were obviously too simple - I sent them down the Promenade, with the expectation that they would find the pond and playground at the bottom of the hill, muck around, and then come back. Return was much more prompt, and from the wrong direction - the walked to the road, and then followed it around. Pleased that they made it back! A second set of instructions that included the information that they should  'keep going until you find the lake' ensued, and nothing was seen of them for quite some time. As everyone else was wandering off, and my phone (which the kids had) was not answering, we headed down the Promenade at a gentle amble to find them - not as far down as I was anticipating. So nice to see them getting along!

three - since when are the shorts choices bloke or dyke? - I came to the conclusion recently that the purchase of a new pair of shorts was essential - I have one pair, bright tartan, with paint splotches and dodgy waist elastic. Today, while artisanat and a selection of the bagusai were doing something else, I went shorts shopping. I tried two stores, Sussan and Jeans West (or some similar mob - might have been Just Jeans). At the first, there was a single rack that I could find, with a choice of white (no) or navy (fine). Absolutely stereotype dyke shorts - designed to hide the fact that I have a waist by sitting on the widest part of my hips. Fail. At the jeans store, there were lots of teen-at-the-beach and a pair of acceptable grey ones (which, no, I won't wear anything that shows the exact shape of my labia) in the women's section, and a couple of choices that I liked in the men's. I've ended up with a pair that are identical to artisanat's usual pairs, just a different colour (and smaller) and a pair of grey 'tartan' that might be okay for work, as long as I don't wear too short a shirt, and as long as eldest doesn't work out that they are exactly zer size, I should be right to keep them. I'm a little bemused by the grey ones - they are a size bigger than the others, and barely have enough room for my genitals. While I do have wider hips than the average male-who-would-fit-this-size, this particular pair of shorts fits both my hips *and* my waist (~20 cm difference between them), even that shouldn't be enough to be pulling them that tight across the front.

very short post, as kids are at I's in Morley, so A and I wandered up to the shops at dinner time, acquired the makings of a psuedo gourmet meal, had a quiet meal on the couch, and then watched Serenity (OML the violence. really really glad that kids were not here to have their sleep disturbed and come out at the wrong time). As I am attempting to be up at six in the morning to go back to work (urgh, argh), posting is minimalist (not even a review of the movie, other than if you haven't seen the series, or at least some, Im not sure that I see the point in the movie. Also, fewer people died than i expected, but not in orders of magnitude).
