the birdhouse bunch

We took a ton of photos in both my hometown and our present neighborhood here.  For some reason beyond my comprehension, the best ones generally involve birdhouses.

 This one obviously celebrates back-to-school with a school bus and a heart, among other things I can't make out from this crappy shot.

 A bird house surrounded by pansies--now that's tough enough to be a McGruff house.

 Is this person more proud of fruits that celebrate the season, or their child who plays sports?

 This picture was taken in July.  Obviously the Wicked Witch of the West feels the need to torture children during the last days of summer vacation.

 In case you can't tell, this flag features two white cats frolicking in a field of sunflowers.  This one truly is a purely decorative flag, because what the hell could cats and flowers possibly signify?

 Here's another member of the Birdhouse Flag gang.  This one has *three* birdhouses, though, which proves that they like birdhouses more than everyone else.  Must be the ringleader.

Okay, now this last one is my favorite flag of all so far:  not only does it meet the birdhouse requirement, but it also incorporates our nation's flag (or a bastardized version) into the festivities:

Here is the picture of my neighbor's flag that I drive past every day and keep meaning to take a picture of.  I had to walk up on their lawn to get the camera close enough, and I noticed they have a bunch of other cute flags sticking up in their garden (I think one had an anthropomorphized grasshopper?) but by then I was afraid that everybody in the neighborhood was peeking out their windows at me as they dialled the FBI to turn me in for terrorism / taking pictures of things in a suspicious manner.  So I took one picture and then got out.

Then I went to another street and saw this flag.  I took the picture from the back because I was too chicken to walk in their yard, and then flipped it, which is why all their other flags look reversed.  I used to know the girl who lived here; she was on yearbook staff with me in high school:

Coming soon: picture of Texas flag-style house numbers painted on curb (there was a scary old man pouring water in his yard watching me take another picture, so I didn't want to run the risk of taking two in a row).

Yeahhh. I just gots to represent - so here's my tribute to Nathan's and my homeland: South Louisiana. North Louisiana can go to hell and join up with East Texas or something (sorry Lauren)

So, just to make sure we all understand what's going on here: this crawfish knows how to par-tay. He is livin' and lovin' it, not realizing, of course, that pretty soon he'll be subjected to boiling water and, along with a few hundred of his brethren, will have his body broken in half, eaten, head sucked dry.

The Fate of Phil's Flag
I came home today and parked my car facing the house of our eccentric neighbor Phil, who has at least several thousand American flags in his lawn, on his car, and, more importantly, attached to his mailbox. To my delight, there was a squirrel perched upon said mailbox, and I continued to sit in my car to watch it.

He crawled forward and put his weight on the flag pole, placing his front paws as high up as he could. Then, pulling back and gripping the flag, he proceded to tear it from its wooden pole. After stuffing an unsettling amount of it in his mouth, he took his prize across the street, apparently planning to place it on the property of our other mildly insane neighbor, Manny, and it's likely that he did so to add to the already wearisome tensions between the two.

I wish I had a picture, but I think that Lauren took one of Phil's yard around the Fourth of July. Then again it could be Stone. I get you guys confused.

on behalf of america's greatest sport, I welcome all of you.  This si a community to celebrate your flag finds and enjoyments. 

You are welcome to invite as many people as you want, and post as many wonderful flags as you want, but heed my warning.  flag collecting is one of the most controversial and dangerous hobbies in american history.  feel free to post, but please be cautious.  I don't want the uppity live journal nazis coming in here and censoring what we are all about.

I know these flags may be a bit much for you to handle, and for that i apologize.  Please, when you are feeling up to it, I have posted some pics of sonme real think pieces.  It raises countless questions and you are welcome to comment on these.  Here is my question "Welcome to pinapplerica?"
