snowflake Day 14
Jan. 27th, 2026 06:46 pm
In your own space, create a promo and/or rec list for someone new to a fandom
I've been in the Stargate Atlantis fandom since the beginning. I can't think of or come up with a better promo for my favorite OTP than the one done by Aja many moons ago
1. and then, randomly, there was a McShep Primer on your list
(LJ link https://bookshop.livejournal.com/958654.html)
Continuing on that theme...
2. Objectifying Rodney McKay (/David Hewlett): A Picspam
3. Objectifying John Sheppard (/Joe Flanigan): A Picspam
And if that's not enough. This pairing lends itself to crack AU's that leave me with a smile on my face.
4. The Epic Tale of Rodney & John, Two Girl Scout Cookies in Love
snowflake Day 13
Jan. 26th, 2026 08:43 am
Talk about a community space you like
Well, there's more than one of those.
First to mind is SGA_Saturday A lot of Stargate Atlantis communities have fallen by the wayside as the years have passed. This community, with its monthly prompts has kept the light burning.
Whatif_au This is a fun, mulitfandom community. I suspect it's light touch and dash of charm has a lot to do with it's mod and creator
This site Unconventionalcourtship is an annual, multifandom challenge that was made for my heart.

Challenge #12
Make an appreciation post to those who enhance your fandom life.
Fandom has taken me from lurking to full-on participating. It's given me life-time friends, a place to express my ideas, and comfort reads when I needed them.
I've traveled places I never would have otherwise. It's broadened my perspective, kept me informed, and made me laugh.
Here's to you, Fandom

snowflake Day 9
Jan. 17th, 2026 02:19 pm
Talk about your favorite tropes in media or transformative works.
This is a fluid situation and it can really depend on the fandom and fandom pairing.
That aside, some of my favorites are:
Sentinel/Guide
Accidental baby acquisition
Gay for you
Found Family
and rounding this out to five -
Vampire AU
(Needed to add that last one since I wrote 23,000 words of it.)
snowflake Day 8

Challenge #8
Talk about your creative process.
Dear god, I wish had an actual process. Then maybe I wouldn't get 'stuck' so often. Better I talk about a common thread that gets the ball rolling.
It usually starts with a question. What if this instead of that? If that sparks an idea, I will sometimes jot it down on the wall. (Cling sheet). I really like doing this. I don't have to boot up my computer or hunt down a pen and paper.

Sometimes it's just random ideas that don't go anywhere, but often enough they do. That particular cling sheet turned into a story for Unconventional Courtship.
First draft is often on notepaper. It goes through a lot of changes and gets fleshed out on the first typed draft. I've found that taking the time to read the story out loud finds a lot of mistakes and plot holes.
Yep, gonna need a second draft.
And then there are the other kind of stories. Like the ones for written for the Fuck for Science! Challenge.
Those I'm just winging.
For Science II (NSFW)
So...eh. I had to reread the story and...what were we talking about?
Artwork! I dabble a little. It's a learning process. Boy, have I come to have an enormous respect for the work artists put into their art. It's hard.
I did like how this one came out though.
Tickets to Pegasus.
snowflake Day 7
Jan. 14th, 2026 09:26 am
LIST THREE (or more) THINGS YOU LIKE ABOUT YOURSELF. They don’t have to be your favorite things, just things that you think are good. Feel free to expand as much or as little as you want.
1. My blue hair.

2. The variety in my fanfic. Yes, my works are almost exclusively McShep. But with that in mind, I've made them laundry machines put them in the 1940's and and explored canon possibilities
Apparently, I have no shame when it comes to these two.
3. I'm a patient listener.
snowflake Day 6
Jan. 12th, 2026 01:27 pm
Top 10 Challenge: The category(ies) you choose are up to you. You can give top 10 Fics you read last year, the top 10 songs to create to, the to 10 guest stars on your favorite show, top 10 characters in your favorite book series, top 10... well, you get the idea.
(Can't think of 10 of anything? That's okay, 10 is just an abstract. It's totally up to you.)
Series I have enjoyed and happily reread.
1. Murderbot by Martha Wells
2. The Expanse by James S.A, Corey
3. Library of the Unwritten by A.J. Hackwith
4. Finder series by Suzanne Palmer
5. Sector General by James White
6. Discworld by Terry Pratchett (with a special love for Sam Vimes)
7. So you want to be a Wizard by Diane Duane
8. The Black Stallion by Walter Farley
9. Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey
10. Excultus by Mottlemoth
This fanfic series blew me away. You don't know need to know a thing about the Sherlock fandom because this is a complete AU. In the 23rd century, two hundred years of genetic tampering has fractured humanity into subspecies.
11. Special mention: Bahamian-Style Mooring by syllic.
A story that no Shawshank Redemption lover should miss. This was the story I didn't know I needed until I read it.
I'm not ashamed to say, by the time I finished, my cheeks were wet.
These are just the ones off the top of my head. I've read--let's say A LOT and leave it at that. 😊📚
snowflake Day 5
Jan. 9th, 2026 10:19 am
Challenge #5
In your own space, create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, a wishlist of sorts
This is always the hardest challenge for me. I have a tough time asking for wishes. But let's give it a whirl.
1. A romantic John Sheppard/Rodney McKay icon. I was setting up the latest Romancing McShep collection for its Feb launch, and realized I needed a new icon. I've dusted off an older one, but I'd love a new look. Romancing McShep 2026.
2. Encouraging comments on anything I've posted to AO3. Sometimes it's really hard to keep the writing mojo working, and a few words of encouragement help enormously. My AO3 page
3. Artwork for any of my stories. I love seeing artists' interpretations of the written word and fandom is so damn talented. My AO3 page
4. A tarot reading. Strictly for fun.
5. A Macy's gift card. I know, this is a weird financial request, but I figured if someone received a gift card for Christmas they have no intention of using, well, I've got my eye on a pair of fleece pajama pants with pockets.
Pockets are incredibly important. *wise nod*

Challenge #4: Rec Your Last Page
Any website that you like, be it fanfiction, art, social media, or something a bit more eccentric!
Not including checking my email, the last pages I delved into were the comment pages of Snowflakes' challenge #3.
I've been making an effort to read everyone's entries and sprinkling comments here and there. So, I poured a cup of coffee and read some of the latest comments this morning. Would I recommend it? Hell, yes.
We're a worldwide, vast community made up of creative, opinionated individuals, yet we all have fandom in common.
Today, it led me to learning a little bit about Twi'leks. (It was referenced in a comment, and my Star Wars knowledge is pitiful, so naturally I had to look it up.)

Jan. 1st, 2026 07:20 pm
I skipped that last couple of years so maybe it's time to do this again. I've wanted to post more and so, why not?.
Icebreaker Challenge l l
I'm Melagan everywhere. This is my hangout place. You might see me pop up on Tumblr or Discord, or Livejournal, but blink and you'll miss it.
I'm doing Snowflake this year for a couple of reasons. I'd like to post more and & want to throw my support behind Snowflake and DW in general.
Most of the fandoms I read in are older fandoms. I like - I should say I Love certain slash pairings. McShep tops the list. Dresden Files is probably my most up to date fandom because the books are still being written. Yes, I am a Dresden/Marone girl.
Girl. That's hilarious. I turn 71 in April. How the hell did that happen?
Seems to me, the best way to "break the ice" is to answer questions, so ask away.
