Last Minute Notice The first time_x_space ficathon sign up round closes tomorrow at 5PM Eastern Standard so this is a last minute call for anyone who wants to participate in this round.
Time X Space is a Doctor Who ficathon dedicated to inspiring new Doctor/Rose Tyler shipper stories.
"It's a perfectly ordinary electric dog." We love dogs. And we love robots. And when you cram a robot into dog form, it makes us happier than watching an Ewok get pwned by a plasma grenade. Yeah . . . that happy. Whether its Aibo, Muffit II, or Goddard, we loves 'em all. Especially K9. Is it because he's had a few upgrades over the years (both in hardware, software, or the Doctor's physical manifestation)? Or is it because he's the only robot dog we know who can play fetch with a Sonic Screwdriver? We're not sure. But we like him. So there.
And we love this action figure set. You get a 5" Doctor Who (the 10th Doctor) and a 2.5" K9. Both figs are cool enough alone, but the K9 isn't your normal action figure - it actually has action. It's remote control!! AND, there's a button on the remote which will cycle through several K9 phrases and sound effects. "Affirmative, Master" and "Bleep bloop bleep." You know, all your favorite K9 sayings.
Each set includes: 5" Doctor Who Action figure (10th Doctor), mini Sonic Screwdriver, 2.5" R/C K9, Remote Control unit, and instructions. Uses 4 AAA Batteries (not included). http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/rc/9604
time for a little rant 5:12 PM 7/28/07 · Flipping through channels, innocently enough, in my early teens is how I discovered Doctor Who; I was barely into my teens. For perspective, I'm 36 now. The first Doctor I ever knew was the 3rd but I've seen all of them over the time; the 4th remains my favorite to this day. I was pretty quickly hooked and tried to watch it as often as possible. Back then Doctor Who came on Monday through Friday at 7pm on KTEH and Sunday evenings around 9pm.
Mondays through Fridays you got a single episode, a chapter of a complete adventure. The Sunday evening one was an entire story from beginning to end.
With the exception of the last 3 Doctors, all of the previous Doctor Who Doctors have had adventures that lasted longer than an hour. I'd guesstimate the average to be an hour and a ½ to 3 hours to be the standard. While the alst two Doctors have been exceptional, in my opinion, it is extremely frustrating that the timespan of their adventures has been cut so tragically short. Especially when longtime fans are used to having so much more time to enjoy a situation.
I'm not sure if this is because the people behind the show feel the viewers have a much shorter attention span than they used to or if they just don't have the budget to give it to us like they used to.
The New Master?! I heard a rumour at the weekend from a colleague who works for the Beeb, that Paddy Considine had initially been approached to play The Master, but couldnt due to commitments filming the new Bourne film. However, he has apparently stated that he would definitely do another regeneration of the Master at a later date, and he has confirmed that he is signed up for the next series of dr who :) I hope he is going to play the Master, as he is a great actor, and has the perfect sinister, intendse edge that would be perfect for the master!
New BADASS Daleks! I don't think we've done this, at least I haven't seen this yet, but I am really itching to play that Black Dalek from Doomsday. If we do create it, I want first dibs on him.
AVAILABLE SOCKAGE! Here are some definitely-available socks! Inhabit now while stocks last!
zoe_gosh_wow - Zoe - psychosis levels can be reduced at new owner's discretion. Although current level of utter terrifying insanity also acceptable, albeit frightening.
tardis_girl - Compassion - be a TARDIS! Travel time and space! Smiths albums optional.
iris_wildthyme - Iris - be postmodern! Be Jane Fonda! Be barking mad! Be Iris!
(Anyone wanting to be a bus-shaped TARDIS with hang-ups over being the same size on the inside, I'm sure that can be arranged.) And lo, it has come to pass!
Any character not on the Active Socks list is potentially available: if a sock exists we will contact its owner to check, but it is highly likely that you can be the worryingly-clad character of your dreams.
Especially welcome: any of UNIT (that's my personal prejudice in favour of Fun), the lovely Jackie Tyler, camp villains.
Sock List Another Occupied and Active Socks list would be good I think. We need fresh victims and it's handy to know what we have to entice them with. Shove a comment in and I'll bung you on the list. If you definitely don't want your terrifying sockpuppet it'd be great if you let us know as that way you could give the to loving new owners or ruthlessly kill them. Here be list off top of head:
Random Socks of Senseless Beauty: barbarella69 - Barbarella, you know, off of the film doctormarysue - Vincent the Time Lord and kidnap victim richeymanic - a real person who doesn't know he's in the community. Don't ask. Think he's ceased updating.
Right-ho. I can sense I have omitted things out of tiredness. Here be things:
People on list above, I have omitted Real Identities and will leave them thus unless you definitely want to be named and shamed. If so, tell me in handy comment facility. Ra.
If I've left off your sock do poke me with a stick and tell me. As I said, not totally with it. I can sense I've omitted at least one Person of Importance and it isn't personal, just doziness.
If you have any socks you definitely want rid of, it'd be great if you could let me know and also it'd be useful if I knew whether you wanted to hand 'em on or kill 'em. Either's fine, as long as the character gets back into circulation. If you want to start being said character again, even better. The Church of Gallifrey welcomes back the penitent. We all understand the seductions of not being quite this sad and of having time to call your own. Don't choose life! Choose gallifrey!
Obviously, any new people are welcome also with new socks. Apply for membership to any one of the million admins or bung a comment in here/any of our journals or even use actual email. All are good.
We may eventually implement some sort of Enforced Sock Death Policy for those that have begun smelling funny and where someone new would like to play that character, but will give vast amounts of warning, send emails etc to ensure non-killing of beloved avatars. Yes.
Also, if there's anything I should add to this ramble, poke me with aforementioned stick. Yes.
Note Stuff happening. Will deal with email backlog when stuff stops happening. Or when head back together enough. Gallifrey contributions will be pants but in Game terms is better than Not There. I hope. So this to say yes I am playing but am not going to be exactly with-it.
A while ago I contacted nostalgia_lj to try to join Gallifrey, but for some reason it hasn't worked on my computer and I've only got posting access here. Does anyone know how to get me the Master into gallifrey?
I haven't asked before because I didn't want to bother anyone. Sorry, I'm shy and weird like that.
All of me... them... us... oh, get in the TARDIS. Prodded along by xambrius' example, here is my Time Lord character. All of him. I've been working on several stories with him for quite a while now. I wasn't able to cast exactly those actors I wanted because, well, I couldn't find photographs of them or ones suitable. So... that's that. From experience I know casting's never what you wanted anyway, but then you're often surpised how well it turned out. That's the case here.
A very specific story reason is behind why each one is who he looks like. Maybe some other time I'll go into it and explain it. Right now, it's late, and I'm going to bed now.
March 26 New Series Premiere If they stick to that schedule, the first episode of the new series will air the day after what would have been Pat Troughton's 85th birthday. I just thought of that tonight whilst reading through some of my old DW clippings.
Fancy that, eh. What timing for the new series. I mean I doubt it's intentional, but it is neat.
