◆What to wear, how to style each piece, what kind of impression to create―I talk about the outfits or items that appear in my narrative essay series centered on fashion, looking at them from a styling perspective. I also include photos of my outfits as examples◆
This time, from the series ▷ Ep.2 Dressed in Friendship ◁, I’ll be writing about “Tulle Skirt.”

It’s Hilda.
In ▷ Ep.2 Dressed in Friendship ◁, I wove an episode, one that means a great deal to me, about how attire gave me strength.
Here, I’d like to talk about the “Tulle Skirt” that appeared in this piece.
1. About the Tulle Skirt
When you hear the term “Tulle Skirt,” what kind of impression do you get? First, let me explain what a tulle skirt is.
Q1. What kind of item is it?
It is an item rooted in the shape of the ballet costume known as the “tutu.” Made from a thin, sheer fabric woven into a very fine mesh, it has a light, airy feel while creating a voluminous silhouette. With every step, the skirt creates a beautiful sway, adding to its charm.
Q2. What kinds of outfits does it lend itself to?
Its silhouette makes it a natural fit for “feminine” and “girly” outfits. And it brings a soft femininity to the look, creating a romantic, dreamlike mood.
Q3. What makes this item appealing?
Its sweet, elegant look and soft, airy volume are its greatest charms. Although the fabric is thin, it can be worn year-round depending on how it is layered, letting you enjoy a variety of outfits. When you want to lift your mood or add a touch of something special, this piece can be just right. If you think “Today matters,” try borrowing its power.

2. Key Points and Styling Examples for a Tulle Skirt
A tulle skirt brings a special touch to an ordinary day. So, how do we style it? First, I’ll explain the key points for styling it, and then share my own outfits as examples.
〈Key Points〉
Because it is such a sweet and elegant piece, it can sometimes look a little too dressy for everyday styling. Also, the volume it adds below the waist can make the silhouette feel heavy. When styling a tulle skirt, the key is to adjust its sweetness and silhouette to the balance you want. Accessories and color choices can also help with that adjustment, but using the 2 methods below will make it easier to put together an outfit that suits you.
① Adjusting the Look with Tops
Although a tulle skirt itself is a sweet-looking piece, it pairs surprisingly well with a wide range of tops.
・To bring out the sweetness, pair it with a top that has a similarly sweet feel.
・To tone down the sweetness, pair it with a top that has a contrasting feel, such as something casual or cool.
② Adjusting the Look through Silhouette (The Length of the Skirt That Is Visible)
Depending on the length of the skirt that is visible, the outfit’s overall impression and silhouette change.
・Tucking the top in and letting the skirt’s silhouette show clearly emphasizes its sweet impression and volume.
・Wearing a longer top without tucking it in leaves less of the skirt visible. This plays down the sweet impression and also helps tone down the silhouette’s volume.
◆LOOK 1: Feminine Styling That Emphasizes Sweetness and Volume

・The purple tulle skirt takes center stage, paired with a fine-striped top in a similar shade, tucked in at the waist. The styling shows off the skirt’s silhouette while keeping the look feminine without feeling overly dressed up.
・Choosing white for the accessories, bag, and shoes keeps the outfit feeling light.
◆LOOK 2: Casual Styling That Tones Down Sweetness and Volume

・The secondhand long knit is worn loose over the skirt, letting less of the skirt show. The knit’s worn-in softness dresses down the look, toning down both the sweetness and the volume.
・Beige sheer boots are paired with the outfit, paring back the sweetness and adding a subtle edge.
~Note~
I really went back and forth on this one. Should I style the “same skirt” in different ways, or show variations with “different skirts”? In the end, since I have a few tulle skirts in different colors and so on, I decided to feature two looks using “different skirts” this time. Still, styling the same item in different ways sounds fun too… so I’d like to make that the theme another time!!
3. An Episode Offered Through a Tulle Skirt
Now, whether you’re someone with a tulle skirt in your closet or someone without one—what did “you” think of this piece, and how did it make you feel?
The sweetness and elegance of a tulle skirt can take on different expressions depending on how it is styled. And I believe each of those expressions can bring a special radiance to everyday life. The radiance that “you” wear will become “your own bloom,” supporting your heart through that day.
Days when you meet someone and feel nervous. Days when you are waiting for something and feel unsettled. Days when something important lies ahead and you need courage. I’m sure “you” have all kinds of days.
We cannot always stay strong at heart—at times like that, please try borrowing strength from clothing.
What are “you” feeling now? What kind of day would “you” like today to be? I hope “you” can take a step forward as yourself, just a little different from usual. With that wish, I offer this piece to you once again.
