Nancy is visiting her classmate Junko and her grandfather's house.

お祖父さんたちが餅つきの準備を進めています。
ナンシーは、初めて見るものばかりです。
順子は、ナンシーに説明しました。
順子：この臼と呼ばれる石の器と杵と呼ばる木の巨大ハンマーで餅米を作るのよ。
みんな順番に餅をつき始めました。
順子は、体格がいいので大人顔負けの力強さで餅を突き上げます。
順子は、ナンシーにも餅をつく様に誘いました。
杵をナンシーに手渡したところ、よろけてしまいました。
それを見かねた順子のお祖母さんが納屋から子供用の小さな杵を出してきました。
ナンシーは、なんとかその小さな杵で餅をつくことが出来ました。
餅をつき終わったあとでみんなで餅を頂きました。
ナンシーは、餅を食べたことがありましたが、出来立ての餅は初めてだったようで大変気に入りました。
お祖母さんは、ナンシーに小学何年生か尋ねました？
どうやら順子と同級生と思われていなかった様です。
ナンシーは、美味しいお餅を食べながら少し複雑な気持ちになりました。
