Crossposted from my
journal.I'm watching a (currently airing) k-drama called
The Heavenly Idol. A priest/saint from an alternate fantasy world is isekaid into the body of a K-pop idol in our world. He retains his healing powers, so the Grim Reaper becomes his K-pop group's road manager to stop him from saving lives. And the leader of the Evil Forces becomes head of a broadcasting firm to take him on. XD
I started watching it because the manhwa it's based on is hilarious. The drama is less so, but still ridiculous and enjoyable. I continued watching it because Kim Min-gue is perfect for the role of a saint, second only to the role of a puppy. He has those pleading-sparkle eyes. He has those eyes brimming with benevolence, accentuated by eyebrows that naturally tilt upwards, that only puppies and true actual divine not-scammy saints (if they existed) would have.
I want to share a clip here. Kim Min-gue has a duet with a famous singer, and the Evil Forces have caught the famous singer's vocal cords, so Kim Min-gue starts singing first while healing the famous singer. Basically, he heals through touch, so it looks like a lot of skinship, and the famous singer is confuzzled, and the audience is loving it because they think it's fanservice. XD
I love that, but what I really love is the way Kim Min-gue sang this. It's a cover of Lee Sun-hee's 'Fate', and it's so beautiful in this lower register, so angelic in his voice, as melancholy as a music-box tune, plucking at my heartstrings in accompaniment. I love that he doesn't vibrato the whole thing the way other singers do with this song. Instead his voice glides, like a bird coasting on the wind without moving its outspread wings; instead his voice flutters at the right moments, at the end of a song-sentence. I wish we could get a full studio version of this.
Also, as great as Tak Jae-hoon (the famous singer) sings his part, I want a version with Kim Min-gue singing this song from beginning to end. May the multiverses manifest this for me.
