| Newbie Saying Hi |

Just wanted to say Hi. I'm Maria 31 year old stay at home mom of 3. Just very resently relocated my family to Kentucky from Califorina. I love sewing just really got back into it. My true obession is machine embroidery. My favorite thing is to sew purses. I just sewed 2 dresses for my oldest daughter. Can't wait to get to know everyone..

| Saving a skirt? |

Lotsa communities are about sewing, but I was searching for "mending," so I'm here.
I had, once upon a time, a pair of big (baggy) black corduroy pants. They were secondhand and I used them thoroughly, leaving me with thin and frequently torn fabric. Not one to give up, I slit all the seams and added some purple triangles to make a (pretty spiffy, if I may say so myself) skirt. The skirt, of course, has the same problem as the pants did though--the black parts aren't very strong and are prone to tearing.
I refuse to give up on this, at least until it comes apart completely. Any suggestions for saving the skirt? I can mend the existing tears, no problem, but I'm too nervous about acquiring more tears to wear it much. I'm thinking about something to do with lining it with another fabric, but I'm not sure if that would help; alternatively, I could cut out more of the old parts in an orderly fashion and sew in complementary triangles.
For the record, I don't have access to a machine right now, but I have no problem sewing long seams by hand.

it's your co-mod  quiz_show. i finally got around to changing the layout of this community, FINALLY. i also updated the info and the interests so we'd be easier to find ;-)
