Enable Win 8 compatibility, choose DX 9 and disable MSAA. That worked for me. Before disabling MSAA I would still get the occasional crash but since I've turned MSAA off I have not had 1 crash. I don't own on Steam though, just on Ubisoft but I don't see why it would be any different since you have to launch with Ubisoft anyway.
I have the same problem cannot play for a minute before crashing, Nothing has helped in this situation. Update, Making the files in the gamefolder .exe solves the isuue, they ♥♥♥♥ up if you touch the directx settings
i also encounter this issue before. what i do is i download Large Address Aware. if im not wrong the game is too old and dont know how to use more ram or something like that. if you have more than 4gb of ram and modern system like win11, runing LAA could fix the issue. search "techpowerup large address aware", follow the steps and it should fix the issue

already done
Open your Nvidia App, find FC3 (both DX9 and DX11 versions). Then find option called "threaded optimization" - set it to ON.
In \Documents\My Games\Far Cry 3\GamerProfile.xml There's a setting called D3D11MultithreadedRendering. Sset that to 0 (yes ZERO). Then make this XML "read only". Setting the file to "read only" makes game the game unable to save your settings if you changed them though

Started to get crashes in DX11 mode one day but this sollution Far Cry subreddit helped me
Same thing here
what works for me is running the original farcry3.exe instead of d3d11.exe, worked for me on both Dx9 and 11 afterwards
edit: also switched to borderless not sure, some older games react weirdly to full-screen, so you don't open your file browser every time you can make the launch option for it to run the original

might try it at some point but getting back into the game after 4 months will be hard, it ruined my experience
